Help, hunting the wind???
I have recently started to hunt southern Michigan farm land. (Typically, I have hunted the mid to northern lower pennisula of Michigan.) Instead of hunting the typical corn field edge's (both with corn still up and with corn harvested). I have choose to hunt the ravine's and creek bottom's that run in and out of the corn and soy bean field's.
Last week I had a awesome buck come in, however, it was just a tad bit to dark to take a good shot (fiber optic site). After scouting around a day later, I foundwhat I'm sure is the buck'srub line. Even more than that several well used scrape's.
I moved my stand to hunt the scrapes. This is where I'm stumped a bit. The ravine pretty much run's west to east. Typically the wind here come's out of the north west or west. Seldom does is come from the east. If the deer come's from the East, I'm afraid of the deer picking up scent. If it come's from the west, no problem, I would be down wind. To help cover my scent, I shower before hunt's using non-scented hunting soap's, utilize scent lock hunting clothing, and use rubber boot's. (All of which, I think at least help out).
Any suggestion's, etc... would be appreciated. Im just really worried about the deer coming in down wind. It's a very thick ravine, awesome white tail habitat. Only about 80 yard's across and stand location is about 20 yard's in.

Dont hunt it when the wind isn't right.Just hunt that spot when you know the wind is in your favor. Sounds like your on to a nice buck so don't chance it. Alot of times killing a big buck isn't because you hunted every chance you could but that you hunted when it was smart to. Good luck.
