Default Extra Horn ????

[hr]
went to my Magnolia stand this morning , did a little rattling.after about 45 min. I say a deer coming stright to me.I though it was a doe till he got about 50 yards, then I could tell he had little spikes.I though they were little ones sticking stright back. when he got about 30 yards,I saw something different about him. I saw he had an extra spike sticking stright out. at 25 yards he was looking for me hard,he would stop look and listen then a step or two and stop and look again.
then he trun around and started to my side. at 25 yards broad side , I grunted and he stopped. I shot and he left wide open. at about 50 yards he crashed.

looking at hin,the size and head and how big the base of the horns were , I could tell he was an older deer.

a close look.

why does this happen to deer ??

Congrats again Tree Climber!

Hard to say if that was just a 1 time abnormal growth or if it's a genetic defect that would grow back yearly. Only way to know would have been to let him walk and watch for him next year.
