Default Is being a serious/hardcore bowhunter bad?

I've hunted a fair amount with my faimly in the past. But I was always the kind of hunter that would either have to know completely know what he was doing or I wouldn't really want to go to bad with them, because it would give me a lesser chance to get kill of my own. So being that way I did a lot of hunting by myself.

But this season I have been talking to my father, he hasn't shot a bow since he was in Highschool. He said he wanted to go and shoot some bow when I come back, and also would like me to take him bowhunting. I've took him huting for predators, turkeys, pheasants, etc, but never bowhunting for deer. I feel like I took hunting to serious when I was younger, and now I am realizing the some of the things I missed. Have any of you guys been to serious of a bowhunter?

Yep.

I try to remind myself each time I go out that bowhunting is a fun sport and my goal is to enjoy myself. Otherwise I get too serious and uptight and end up being miserable.

Enjoy yourself and appreciate the fact that you are now able to hunt and have fun with your dad.

With me it's a 24 hour 7 day's a week my wife and 3 kid's all hunt so mostly i am making sure they are all set or i am tracking for someone but i wouldn't change a thing, even in the off season i am trying out different product's so being hardcore bad ? no way life is way to short if you love to hunt or to just be out there then keep going until you can't ..take a young one hunting and once you see the smile on them or when they come up to you and ask if they can go again it's a great feeling..sorry when on for so long but i have had to many people tell me that i am to serious with hunting and needed to tell it to someone.

If you are asking my wife this question then I bet she would say, yes, being a serious/hardcore bowhunter is bad.

For example, I have to go help my brother-in-law put up his stand tonight for tomorrow's season opener. We hunt heavily pressured public land so we try to put the stand up right as it is getting dark in the hopes that nobody will steal it. Well, the wife wants me home by 5:30 so I can help unload the groceries.

Aaarrrgghhh, sometimes...sometimes.....arrrrghhhh...

KSHUNTER- I AM A EXTREME HARDCORE BOWMAN. I SHOOT EVERYDAY AT LEAST 50 ARROWS. I AM IN THE WOOD ATLEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK ALL YEAR LONG IT IS DEFINATLY MY PASSION I THINK IT, LIVE IT, EAT IT BUT IF ANYONE IN MY FAMILY WANTED ME FOR ANYTHING HUNTING WOULD WAIT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO HUNT WITH MY DAD AND WOULD HAVE GIVEN ANYTHING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE DONE THAT. I WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR MY FAMILY AT ANY TIME AND TAKE ALL THE TIME NECESSARY FOR THEM.

IT IS SOMETHING THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AND YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE AT IT.

I am with Frank on this one.

If you ask me......No it is not a bad thing. It is a good thing. But if you ask my wife, you will get a totally different answer. She doesn't hunt and don't understand it. So she thinks that I am just plain crazy.

I'm like you....I hunt alot by myself because most people aren't as scent consious as I am and I think the chances of taking a nice buck are greatly reduced when hunting in groups. But there are also times whne its nice to go out with my wife, Dad, Brother, or one of my friends just to share the outdoors. I'm only 25 and have been fortunate enough to take a few nice deer but my most exciting and memorable bowhunt was last yr when I was able to sit next to my wife while she harvested her 1st bowkill. It was a small half rack but I was actually shaking as the scene unfolded with me sitting in the same tree with her. You can still be a serious bowhunter, just remember to lighten up sometimes....
