RE: PROBLEM need some input
From that picture I'd say he shot a sheep.[8D][8D]
Aside from that, it's hard to say. There's a lot you can hit that'll produce a lot of blood as long as it keeps moving. If it stops it has time to clot up and may not start again. They also tend to run out of blood with these periferal shots just before they drop for good. I would go to the last spot and do a grid search for about 75 yards if you can't find any more blood. Without more info as to angle and all that it's hard to say. Muscles can bleed like crazy for a while, so can noses, broken jaws etc. |
RE: PROBLEM need some input
Another option if you dont find him, get one yourself and then tell the boy you found his. Lose the tape though, he might want to see it again and be able to tell it wasn't his. I did this for my son's second deer. He had to go back to school and I found his two days later slightly chewed up by the coyotes. Same day I spotted a deer of comparable size and dropped it. Dressed it and took it home to the boy. Boy was he happy.

RE: PROBLEM need some input
As long as the weather is around 50's or cooler,
the deer should last 48 hours as long as theres not alot of predators. Like Davidmil said do a grid search, like I said before MOST bucks will go for water (creeks, ponds)or beading area's(heavy cover) tell us where the last place you seen blood was,and what type of terrain is surounding that area.Standing corn is a heavy cover area and it's fairly simple to find a wounded dear there.Blood will be(from where the shot was placed)around waist high.look for broken stalks as he will by that time be disoriented.;) If not don't lie to the fella, just make him practice a little more. That close to the sweet spot for your first buck ,is too good of a shot to give up ! Everone get's buck fever when they see a good one(and to him that WAS a good one!)like someone else said let him read these posts of this thread and he'll see that it's happen to alot of people. I lost a good 8 point once,he ran into such heavy cover I couldn't find him! I found him about 3 weeks later when a buck I shot ran to the same area and I found the one I shot 3 weeks earlier, while looking for the one i shot. unfortunatly ,all that was left was skeletal,so I kept the horns.:( |

RE: PROBLEM need some input
LOT OF BIG ARTERYS AROUND THE UPPER FRONT SHOLDER AND BASE OF THE NECK ... I WOULD SAY YOU HAVE A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE OF RECOVERING HIM IF THERE IS A GOOD BLOOD TRAIL ..
GOOD LUCK DD ![]() |
