You guys and your high tech maps. I went to terraserver and first printed an aeriel pic, then the topo of the same area. Then I tried to get the roads to match up then printed another aeriel and then the topo on top of it. It came out not too bad...the roads are offset, so I think the topo is about 20 ft off from the aeriel. But when you know the country really well, 20 ft doesn't matter.

OSTCD??? Is that what they were talking about? I thought they were calculating FOC or some super duper hysteria or mysteria or .... well... you know. Now the weather channel part I almost got.. it's either raining or not. The wind is right or it's not etc etc etc.

Aeriel photos can be a difficult thing to position correctly in wooded areas. In order to get a photo lined up with the real world, you need control points with which you can match up th photo to the earth. Have you ever seen the big white X's painted on the road, thats what they are for, to register the photo. Without those marks or other landmarks its difficult to get the photo positioned properly. Then of course there is the distortion of the image from the curved lens of the camers...asleep yet? The pictures are just that, pictures. To get from point A to point B you are better off with a USGS topo map and a compass.

MA_bwhntr, I'm in the same line of work as you.

Unfortunatly, up here in Canada, we don't have the digital coverage of Terraserver or anything like that. Have to make do with what I can dig up (unless someone else has an idea).

Great tools though!!! Everyone should take a look into these and they might find something useful.

Jim.
