Where do you sight your bow in at?
Meaning, do you set your pins to be dead-on, or do you set them to shoot low?
I've been hearing and reading mixed views. Some say to dial them in to hit low to compensate for the deer squatting to run at the sound of the bow. Others say that's foolish, you should sight them in to know exactly where the arrow will finish. I see both sides. If you sight it in to finish a couple inches below your pins.....you'll know where the arrow is going. A couple inches lower than where you're aiming. Any thoughts? |
RE: Where do you sight your bow in at?
I sight mine in so the arrow hits dead on where the pin is. I wouldn't want to be thinking or wondering where my arrow is going to hit, I know where it will hit this way!

I would site them in on exactly where you hit.The closer you are the less likely it is that the deer would duck under the arrow.you need to kno wexactly where the arrow will hit.

Another thing, if the deer are hearing your bow and your buddies bows, I think you need to do something to quiet them down. I have never had a deer jump my string or even hear my bow go off yet, and I've been archery hunting deer for 10 years now.

RE: Where do you sight your bow in at?
Just to clarify. I have my pins set dead-on at 20-30-40yds. Anything inside of 20yds I use the first pin.
But the theory of setting them high, so the arrow finishes a little lower, is interesting. How often does a deer squat upon hearing the bow release? I'm a new bowhunter and only have videos as examples but nearly 100% of deer has some type of reaction in the form of ducking or squatting. Most "bad" hits I see are a little high. I understand the notion of wanting to know exactly where the arrow is going to hit. But how can you predict that if the target moves after you've committed to the shot? Food for thought. |
RE: Where do you sight your bow in at?
My pin is dead on at 20 yards and I can shot out to from 10 to 30 yards and my pin is always on! What kind of sight to i have? :D

RE: Where do you sight your bow in at?
Why would you set your pins/sight to be different from where you are aiming in the first place.. That'slike saying once i've sighted in my bow it shoots 2 inches to the right so I guess I aim 2 inches to the left to compensate? Kinda hard to remember when that 150 class is a trottin by isnt it?

RE: Where do you sight your bow in at?
1 pin at 23yds seems to be the average.this is what I have always used

RE: Where do you sight your bow in at?
I sight them in for exact yardages...20, 30 and 40. Most of my shots are under 20 so I don't really have to aim high or low.

Got mine set at 20 yards and can shoot to 25 yards with it. at 30 yards i gotta aim up a lit tle bit more than i would like.
