Here in PA , the mast crops r amazing this year , there is Apples beach acorns , everything is polluted with food , the deer are gonna be nice and chunky for when i get out oct 1st

Guys...I started this thread maily because of one type of nut that I did not mention before. I have been online for days & cannot find out what it is. I think its a hickory nut of some type. I think here in New England they have been called pig nuts but I want to be sure. Its a bit larger than a quarter, 5/8" thick, shaped like a hot air balloon, dark greenish brown, with a little stem on top????????????? Anyonee who can help me out with either a website showing nuts (I know what ya'll thinking right now!) LOL...anyway anyhow..its driving me nuts!

Its not beech..Im sure of that...

I'm sure you probably know but you can only baiton private land inzones 11 and 12 in CT.

Artie97 - I live in the very notheast corner of CT....& really I could hunter over anything I wanted....who the hells gonna know really...I just rather it be acorns....but the occasional bag of old soft apples REALLY helps!

Just found out! Its a Bitternut Hickory tree...& they are bitter nuts...now to find out if deer eat them....they come up in my yard @ nightso I guessing they eat them??

I am unsure what acorn crops are dependant upon. However, if water is an indicator then I wonder why we seem to have quite a bit of them this year and yet very little rainfall?
