A deer has 4 tines on one side, and 4 on the other.

I would call it an 8 point. some in Canada or other in states would call it a 4 point. What if it has 5 on one side and 4 on the other side? I think the best way to count points is to count them all. It will be interesting to know why some would only count one side.

I would call it an 8.

People in my area would call it a 4, but personally I learned how to add way back in elementary school. 4 on one side + 4 on the other = 8 total points.

And still some people would call it a 4 x 4.

I live in SD and most would call it a 4 pointer here, but on all the hunting shows they would refer to it as an 8, just curious how the forum pans out.

It would be called a 4 by 4 or an 8 by most folks I know.. Well, most would call it an 8 but I spent to much time out of the area with people who called them 4 X 4's.

8 pointer by Eastern count. 4 pointer by western terminology.

8pointer here in Illinois we like to count them all.this way there is no question to how many they actually have.

I would call this a 8 pointer, but i've heard it called a 4x4 even a 9 pointer they call it a 4x5 just doesn't make a whole lot of sence to me.
