Do deer eat Beech and Hickory nuts or are the nuts too hard for them?
Where I hunt there are also alot of red oak acorns. The white acorns are small and not nearly as many.
The way there all dropping I'm afraid they may all be gone before our opener,Oct.1st.
This is only my 4th year of bowhunting and I only have one hang on stand.Since the trees are in different areas, where would you hang your stand? Thanks for any help.

I would hunt the white oaks first if there are a few left. They will eat other nuts but prefer the whites over everything in my part of the country.

I'm not sure about hickory, but deer do indeed eat beech nuts.
It should be noted that whether or not deer will be feeding on beech nuts would likely depend what other foods are available and how beech nuts rank in terms of desired deer fare.

Deer do indeed eat the devil out of beech nuts. I never saw one interested in a hickory nut. Too tough for them I figure.

As Davidmil said, Deer love beech nuts! As for your stand, I recommend that you move around a bit. If you sit in the same stand hunt after hunt, you'll burn out that spot. Don't be afraid to mix it up a little by doing some ground hunting.

In my area of Pa. Beech and Hickory nuts are starting to come down. The deer are having a field day! The Red Oaks are really kicking out acorns too! Those Hickery nuts are tough but they get intothem and seem to love them. Acorns rule!!!!

Glad to see you made it over after the mass migration.
