Yes those things work great for skeeters!!Don't worry about the scent.It does have an odor,but either the deer can't smell it,or do not recognize it.I have taken over a dozen animals while using mine.Anywhere from 13yds out to 70yds.I know it's effective range for mosquito's is 15ft.Maybe the scent breaks down after that,and that's why the deer aren't alarmed by it.All I know is that if a deer blows at you it's most likely you,and not the thermaCELL.I haven't had a deer blow at me yet(I'm lucky),but it just can't be pure coincidence that I have taken those animals if itdid bother them.I know alot of other hunters that have been using it too,and they have great success with it.Just give it a try,repel or cutter will get you busted quicker than a thermaCELL.Just my opinion.

Here is another one of those products that I have been hearing so much about but have yet to try. I even had a customer come into the shop last night who said much the same things as what you folks are stating. I don't know about that smell though. You guys sure it won't spook deer?

Here is a real world exmple for you PA. Last year I was setup in a ground blind next to a stream crossing. I was using my Thermacell so I didn't get eaten alive. I could smell a slight butane odor and was worried about it. A doe walked 12 yards in front of me and didn't spook. That's enough proof for me. Plus this thing is worth spooking a few deer if it keeps you from having to move all the time swatting at skeeters. I have never had a problem with it in my tree stand either.

I used one last week (Friday after I was eaten by the bug all Thursday morning) and I agree on the not so odorless thing. It king of had the not burning but definitely hot kind of smell. But I was not bothered by a single bug Mosquito noseeum what have you.

If you sweat real bad the deer could be smelling you and not the thermaCELL.I guess there's no 100% positive way to determine if it's you or the thermaCELL.I have had way better luck with it than with sprays...I was a non-believer,but it made me a beleiver.Next time a deer blows look at your thermaCELL and see which way the wind is blowing the smoke.I have heard deer way off,but the wind would be in my favor.I have to believe that it was blowing at another hunter.I'm on public land so there is no lack of them.

I don't do any kind of hunting without mine. I killed a big 6-point last year with it on, so......But like yall say, it does have that butane smell to it.

it makes a slight noise too by the way(the butane burning), but nothing too loud.(you can barely hear it)
