Default Question on quivers????

I am curious if quivers, such as Alpine, Mathews etc., with foam that you shove your broadheads into will dull the heads after time? It seems like taking them out and putting them back in time after time would cause the broadheads to lose their edge. Any opinions on this?

After the initial cut you should be able to reuse the same opening. Any dulling would be countered by the reduction of oxidation on your edge which also causes dulling. Oxidation is the reason you should change your blades every year, even if you haven't used them.

I use the Alpine soft lock quiver and haven't had any problems. In fact I don't think the blades even touch the foam on my Muzzy 4 blade heads. Only the very tip of the broadhead.

On the Mathews quiver, the foam is flush with the bottom of the quiver, so the broadheads need to be completely pushed into the foam.

I have always used a Kwikee Kwiver, where the blades never come in contact with anything. It seems that most of the newer style quivers are going the foam route. I am quite anal about having sharp blades....maybe the foam doesn't dull them as much as it seems they would???

In my humble opinion, the foam style quivers do dull the blades a tiny bit, but I like knowing my broadheads are tucked away safe and secure when they're in the quiver.
I bought a nifty little broadhead sharpener at my local archery shop that has 2 small ceramic sticks set at the correct angle for broadheads. I believe that Bohning makes it. I carry it with me and just a couple of swipes and I know my blades are as sharp as when they were brand new.

Your fine. I use the mathews quiver and put the mechanical foam in it instead of the solid piece, even though i use cut up front broadheads. Also, put a little vaseline on the heads when your done sharpening them. This helps with the oxidation a little bit. You should still hone them every week or two, or i do anyways.

I use the Bohning six arrow quiver that grips the arrows in two places which
works well with the mechanicals I shoot. There no foam at all as the
heads are secured under the hood. Works for me.

With a typical foam quiver I have not found this to be the case. With a hardened rubber quiver I have seen blades get dull after only a week or so in the quiver. Good point to bring up for folks!

Thanks for the input guys. I was considering putting the mechanical head insert in also. I use Muzzy 3-blade 100's, and it looks like only a small portion of the blades will actually come in contact w/the foam.
