bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I have seen some of the arrow speeds people claim to have out of all kinds of bows and alot of these people are saying that there speeds are higher than the ibo's from the manufacturer. keep it real people, speed kills but i'd rather have a slow hit than a fast miss!!!!! mathews legacy 70# 29"draw 510 grain 2315 xx78 ss 100gr point 245fps

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
3D bow------Martin SlayR, 27' draw, 53#, 265gr arrow, 299fps (for real)
Hunting bow--Martin ShadowCat, 27" draw, 58#, 320gr arrow, 270fps (for real) |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
yip i`ll take a heavy slow arrow over speed and light arrows any day.
but thats just me, and i don`t have a problem with 300 +FPS if thats what your into. i`m at about 260 with close to 90 FPof kinetic energy. works very well. PT |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
My legacy at 30", 63 pounds, shooting a 29 1/2" arrow at 410 grains shoots around 263FPS. Which is plenty fast for me. Im even planning on shooting a heavier arrow next year, but may crank the poundage a little.
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I shoot a Razortec at 71lbs. 418 grain arrow at 279 that's straight from the chrono
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
HA! 26 inch draw, 54 pounds, 510 grain arrow, calculated at less than 200fps! Beat that! With a 342 grain arrow it was clocked at 242......This is an all custom bow, it has no IBO, but it was calculated at 310.
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
pass threw; you're right on the money. Slowly but surely the secret is getting out.
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
With my 3D arrows @ 71lbs and 29" with a 358 grain arrow I was shooting 304fps. With my 412 grain hunting arrows I am guessing 280.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I thought you were talking about the manufacturer's claims that you see in the ads. I had mine chronographed at the pro shop this year and it was in the 250s somewhere. It's an older Mathew's Featherlite at 70lbs. I don't know the arrow weight - carbons with 100gr heads. However, there was another guy there whose bow shot around the same speed. He complained that the factory claimed over 300fps. He told me that most of these 300+ claims are way below in real life. He thought Mathews was the closest.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I'm wondering if you can use a paintball chrono to check your arrow speed? Anybody know?
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
04 Hoyt Vipertec 29" draw, 70#, FPS = dont know dont care
00 Hoyt Havotec 29" draw, 70#, FPS = dont know dont care 88 Browning Excelerator 28" draw, 75# FPS = same as above All I know is I chose my bow for how it felt in my hand when shooting it, not for bragging about how fast it shoots. Not that theres anything wrong with speed if thats what youre into, but not for me. I never have and probably never will chrono them. My bows have killed plenty of deer and from as far out as I humanely feel comfortable. |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
Another slow but sure shooter here. Parker Magnum, 29" draw at62# shoots my 450 gr. SuperSlam 2213's at 246 fps. But they hit where I aim.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I don't know about the manufacturers but I certainly do. ;)
I haven't seen any really totally outrageous claims lately. Most speeds I have seen listed are attainable depending on the specifics of the setup. |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
It seems like a lot of people are more focused on speed then the kinetic energy of the arrow. The denser arrows shoot at a slower speed but are going to give you better penetration (assuming you are still getting reasonable fps). I know some guys that are so hyped up on speed they neglect that their arrrows are porpoising because it is shooting TOO fast. Although I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to make a bow as fast as possible, I think it has become a little overrated.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
Im shooting a Bowtech Allegiance 29 inch draw at 67 lbs, and Easton Exel 400s with 2 inch Blazers,100 grain broadheads, and lumenocks total arrow weight is 400 grains give or take 2 or 3 grains either way.As I was sighting it in the other day a guy was shooting his through the Chrono and wantedme to shoot mine through it, I shot and it was 294. I dont know exactly what a fixed blade head will do at that speed, so I may take a few more pound off.
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
my legacy is set at 67# w/400 grain ICS Beamans and 100 gr field point shot 289fps
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
1999 Jennings Airmaster one cam - 29.5" draw - Gold Tip 5575 - Muzzy 100@ 77# - 287 fps.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
Aren't the advertised speeds calculated under IBO standards which are different than the real world AMO speeds or speed that everyone's bow is set up at (varying arrow weights, length and grain heads)
What is the difference anyway??? |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
HCA Saffari 29" x 80lbs x 350gr arrow = 289
HCA Carbon 4 runner extreme 29" x 68lb x 350gr arrow = 280-283 Bowtech MightyMite 29" x 2 turns off 70lbs x 350gr arrow = don't know yet. |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I could care less how fast my bow shootsas long as itgets the arrowthere before the deer runsthats fast enough.
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
i dont see how campfourcorners bow(same as mine) can shoot 34fps faster than mine with basically the same weight arrows and 3lbs less draw weight!!!!! this is what im talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!keep it real guys!
|
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
PSE Nova with string leaches/peep, carbon tech cheetah hunters. 27.5 draw 58#s
shoots right at 245 with 125 grain tips |
RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
because his arrows are lighter if they were 30" they would be like 100 grains lighter and he might have a longer draw length i mean think about it carbons are usually always lighter than aluminums i think its like 1fps per 6 grians or something like that is what u gain or loose he would auto matically gain like 17 fps or so if his arrows were 30 inches if they are shorther he would gain more if he is shooting a longer draw he will be shooting more alsom maybe not 34 fps but he would have a gain over you.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
BowTech Allegiance, 30" @ 71#'s, 466 grain Easton Axis ST 300 at 286 f.p.s. It shoots a 29.5" Black Hawk Vapor 340 with a 100 grain tip at around 301 f.p.s. I have been messing around with it lately and think I have picked up some speed, right now I am shooting 28.5" Gold Tip Pro Hunter 55/75's with 100 grain tips and 4" dura-vanes. I am not sure of the speed but I know its well over the 300 f.p.s. mark.

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
Drizz, it's very concievable that his bow could shoot that much faster than yours. 3# less draw and he loses 6fps. 110gr less arrow weight and he gains at least 20fps and more likely 25fps. If his bows drawlength is longer than your then he gains about 12fps more per inch.
What's more, what all do you have on your string and where is it located? Everything you put on a string slows the bow down, and the closer to the center serving the more so. Believe me, I see a lot of guys come into the shop where I work with what I'll call typical hunting setups. For those who want more speed and are willing to let me play, I can usually give them 15fps just cleaning the unneeded junk on the string. For those who really want all they can get I can usually tweak 30 to 50 fps out of their bows without changing draw weight or length. |

It's a conspiracy....

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
Yeah with my mathews switchback and a 400 grain arrow 29 in. draw and 70# it shoots oh about 10,000 feet per second:D
No for real though i really dont even know how fast it shoots, probably about 240-260. Some where in there. |

RE: bow speed, doesn't anyone tell the truth?
I had my bow at the range getting ne rest and sites put on.i asked if I could use the chrono to see what kinds of speeds I was getting.I shoot a Hoyt Magnatec at 72 pounds with Gold tip hunters and I was averaging 269 so that is my soeed for my bow.I also use 100 grain thunderheads .The guy at the shop said I have a great bow and the speeds were awesome for it.I was 5fps faster then his Amthews legacy shooting the same arrows and broadheads.
