The buck from Minnesota was killed in a small town called Rushford, in southeastern Minn. The bucks from AL were killed near Auburn AL.
The story behind the Minnesota buck is one for the records. Me and a couple of friends go on a do-it-yourself hunt somewhere different every year in the midwest. This was our second year in Minn. because we had such a good time the year before. The first year we flew, the next we drove --18 hours. On our second day of hunting, my buddy shot a nice buck and we trailed it until about 1 AM in the morning, no luck. The next morning weslept in. When we got ready to go at noon, my bow and case was not in my truck. After the long bought with my buddies about who hid my bow, I finally came to my senses that someone had really broken into my truck late the night before and stole my bow. Wecalled the "cop" on duty, they only had 2 policeman, and hefiled a report.I was so down in the dumps that I wasgoing to fly homeearly and leave my buddies there. That was the sickest feeling that I have ever had. Well, that night we were in the bowling alley, eating and drinking my sorrows away when we started gathering some stares because a cop was entering the bowling alley and heading straight for us. He let out a big smile and told me that the sheriff's office had served a seach warrant in the next county for some other reason and found my bow in this guys possesion. I had to wait until the next day at lunch to get my bow back. We told the people at the jail that if they would let me and my buddies "spend about 30 minutes with the guy in the basement", then we would not presscharges (ha ha). That didn't go over to good so we just got my bow and left. First thing I did was cancel my flight. About 2 hours later, it was Halloween by the way, I climbed into a new spot next to an alfalfa field with my old trusted friend back at home in the bowholder. After only @ an hour, this buck came in front of me chasing does. I grunted and he stopped at about 60 yards and hooked a tree and went to town on it. This was the first time I had actually seen a buck that aggresive. I grunted again, he let go of the tree, all of the hair on his back stood on ends, and he came directly for me. I shot him at about 25 yards and he expired within my sight. Of all of the thoughts that ran through my mind, it wasn't that I had just killed my first P&Y, it was the fact that Iwas pondering, "No one is ever going to believe this story"!!! But I have 3 other witnesses thank goodness.
Sorry for the long story, but I have shared it with every other hunting buddy, why not you guys!!! That trip encompassed my best and worst hunting story of my life.
This year we are going to Kentucky for the second year in a row, Maybe I will have success without the trouble this time, there is something about the second time around!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope you guys have a good year!!!
