Saw tons of deer over the weekend. 3 big shooters far away, never got a shot. Had lots of does with fawns in range and several yearling bucks. Saw 2 yotes and missed on last night. Miss-judged it and rushed the shot. Saw several turkeys also. Found a dead button buck Saturday morning. Still to hot to shoot meat. Gonna try one last time to get one in velvet this weekend.

Sounds like apretty good opening weekend considering you didn't harvest anything. Seeing some nice shooters is always good early in the season. Good luck the rest of the way.

Sorry to hear about that buttonbuck but the season is young and sounds like you are seeing alot of movement. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Did you figure out what happened to the BB? Was he hit by a car?

I think thats what happened. His back right leg was messed up pretty bad and the easiest place he could get to is a small creek about 200 yards from the road. The coyotes got to him pretty fast and ate most of his back right hind quarters.

It definitely sounds productive even if you didn't actually get to shoot an animal. The pics are a nice bonus to your story.

Sounds like an awesome first day in the stand. It's always good to hunt near excellent sign and also see deer, too. Makes the work week easy knowing in 6-7 days you will be out there again. Our opener is this Saturday, but I have my son's soccer practice in the morning...so I will try the afternoon if it's not too hot. Afternoon's where I hunt typically are more productive and I see more deer as compared to early morning hunting.

Can't wait!

PSE, What did you mean by too hot to shoot meat. Is it too hot to get it gutted and into the cooler before it spoils? I've never hunted this early but did this weekend. I was wondering about that but I don't know how long you have to get it cooledbefore it's no good to eat
