If I put out some cane and hunt near it, is that considered baiting? Is that legal? I'm talking about the liquid form, just not sure about the rules and all I can find in this years hunting guide is that you can't hunt over bait.

It would be if baiting if itsillegal in your state. Salt is considered bait. If you just put it out it may not draw in much. It gets used more in the summer then less as it gets closer to fall.

I'm thinking that would be considered baiting.
Don't know for sure, I would check with the local game warden

In Indiana it is considered baiting and is illegal. It must be removed 10 days before you are going to hunt that stand and all of the effected soil must be removed as well.

Yes, it is baiting. If it is legal or not depends on your state. Baiting is legal in Michigan but there is a limit of 2 gallons per baiting station.

I've used it before and the deer dug a dang 3' ditch chewing up the dirt and everything in it's path. It's baiting but legal were I hunt.

Definitely illegal in PA. If you put it out and anything is remaining within 30 days of the start of the season then it is considered baiting.

All, I set some cane out a month ago, haven't been back there to check for sign, I plan on going this weekend, my question is what time of the day should I look to avoid putting pressure on the area? I have seen some impressive buck tracks and am a little worried about running him/them out.[&:]

Baiting is illegal in Minnesota, however using salt, minerals, and liquid scents are not considered baiting by our DNR's definition and perfectly legal here. Is this different from what the regs consider baiting in most other states?

Depends.. If it's close to a food source and you have patterned their travel then tat could be the time to scout from a distance. As for just popping in to take a look. That's up to you.
