Default My First Ever WhiteTail

As many of you know I have only been here in the States for just over a year. I only got to hunt 3 days at the very end of last season so I was really looking forward to todays opener here in Texas.

Well the Alarm rings at 3:30am I was almost tempted to turn it off and go back to sleep.
I get up have some breakfast a couple of last smokes before showering.
I hop in the truck and head off to my hunting spot at 4:30am I get there just after 5am change into my ASAT 3d suit, grab the bow load the quiver and start the mile walk to my stand.

5:45am I am in the stand pulling up the bow and settle in for daylight to arrive.
I have been in the stand for approx 10 minutes and hear hoof steps all around me too dark to see what it is tho.

6:30 rolls around and I can hear a couple of young bucks sparing in the distance.

Things start to get a little boring around daylight and I find my mind wondering and thinking what am I doing here when I can be at home in bed cuddled up to my wife.

7:15am I see a group of 6 doe's walking about 70 yrds to my left then they cross in front of me still at about 70 yrds I think oh well I guess they are heading to the bedding spot.

7:20am I am wrong the doe's have circled back around and are now feeding right in front of me at 18 yrds I pick the biggest one and draw back I am just about to hit the release when I catch movement out of the corner of my eye so I let down and wait.

7:25am The movement was another doe but this one is way bigger than the others so I draw back put my pin on her chest steady myself and hit the release.

She is slightly quartering away from me the 100 grain Muzzy 3 blade finds the spot she leaps high in the air and takes off all the other deer except 3 have also bolted the 3 remaing are looking around wondering what the heck is going on.

I hear the crash as the doe drops I can still see her she has only gone 20 yrds.

I just sit and give thanks to my maker for my very first American White Tail.

I also gave thanks to a wonderfull man called CARDEER for the necklace he sent me.

I wait 45 minutes for the doe to expire and climb down.
I find my arrow burried 4 inches into the hard texas dirt.

I look for sign but no blood I am lucky I seen her go down.

I go to see how my hunting buddy is doing and he is dragging out his deer which also happens to be his first with a bow.

We go back to mine and take a few pics to share with you guys.

When I field dressed her, her chest cavity was full of blood.

Now the hard part begins I have to drag my TROPHY back to the truck.

Sorry for being so long winded but I really wanted to share this hunt with all my friends on here.

Ok here is the best pic of my TROPHY.

Congratulations. Now that the pressure is off your back to get the first you can relax and go for one of those big Texas Trophies.

Good story, Aussie!

And for both of you to get your first bow kill on the same morning is pretty impressive. You are obviously doing something right! And we all know what you mean about hauling your butt out of a warm bed.
