Who still shoots feathers?
Am I the only guy left that won't shoot plastic vanes? The guys at the proshop act like I'm speaking Korean when I ask for feathers.
Maybe I'm just oldskool, or maybe I'm missing the boat here. They ask me why I like 'em, and I really can't answer it. Some claim that feathers are too loud, but I've never had a buck dodge my arrow. I also like the fact that they flatten out for the first part of the flight, helping your arrow avoid deflection on small twigs/vines. I just think they look cool, and have a "traditional" feel. |
RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I do, but i'm sure they both have their advantages. Istarted with feathers about 16yrs ago and i've never had a reason to switchso i never have. I have such a good supply of feathers built up now i'd be crazy not to use them.:D

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I will shoot either, but prefer feathers. If I fletch them my self they get tru flight feathers with a slight offset. They are more forgiving, lighter and have better control than vanes do.
I don't hunt in crappy weather, so the water issue doesn't effect me. However I shoot in crappy weather and they don't seem to shoot any different wet or dry. I prefer aluminums as well, go figure. Paul |
RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I'm a feather guy. I just thing they're cool and natural.[8D] OR.... as the old saying goes...they're exotic. Kinky is when you use the whole chicken.[8D][8D] Blue and White or Pink and white.

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I keep a scant handful of plastic fletched arrows on hand, just for the heck of it. My day-to-day usin' arrows all wear feathers.

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
After advice from both here and outside , when I went to try trad archery I bought arrows with both feathers and vanes . Of the two I prefer feathers , though I would probably go with vanes if I thought the conditions warranted them . My primary hunting arrows are feather fletched , but I have shafts with vanes just in case . Either way I'm always ready .

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I have been shooting feathers for 21 years now. I stay with them because they never let me down. You know the old saying "if it aint broke dont fix it!"

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
Either is ok, but I prefer feathers :)

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I still shoot feathers. Dont plan on switching anytime soon either.

RE: Who still shoots feathers?
I DO! I DO! I DO!!
Feathers look great, stabilize a heck of a lot better, are lighter, faster, more forgiving, so on and so on. I have to admit, I keepa few vanes fletched up for rainy days. I have tried everything under the sun, and it just don't work out. |
