Give me a break, some of you folks just need to take a powder and chill.
If it was someone esle making that statement it would of been blown off, but just because the statement came from a mod lets just take him to the quilitine. Chill, hunting season will be here soon.
Lungbuster, When I was in High Skool I would hunt on a wildlife refuge after skool. I had to walk by this cemetary going in, but coming out after dark was challenging, I just knew something was going to come from one of those headstones and scare the living bageesus out of me and no one within 30 miles, but this was the price I felt like I had to pay to hunt where I chose. I didn't understand why it bothered me as I have faced more dangerious situations than my imagination playing with me. One day on my way to my stand, I entered the cemetary, and then visited the graves that had dated back to 1800's and I could see that a couple of families had been buried there as well as some small imfants. I wondered and had thought what had happened to these people as I am putting the artificial flowers back that had been blown from the winds or the critters dragging them off. Everytime after that, going to or from in the dark, it never bothered me at all, but it gave me strength. Good luck.
Bobby

Don't sweat it. It's SOP here and inherent in internet communication, you just got more of an education than you asked for, if you learn to read between ALL the lines. I just take the good advice, delete the bad. You've got some good, here's another to think about, it's well known but seldom given much personal reflection; "We have nothing to fear, but fear itself." Change the word we, to I, and give it some thought. It's fear your afraid of, not the dark. There's enough real things that restrict us from doing what we would like, tell fear to get in the back of the line and you'll see it when your done dealing with the real problems in your life. Don't let this one stop you, it's just not worth it. Lifes to short.

Can't even begin to count how many Marines that I had to teach how to read a map and use a compass.:D
Yeah I guess when you're getting lost all the time you get pretty good with a map and compass.;)
Nah, I was always having to helpa couple of former Marinesgoing through the Land Nav course at Harmony Church at Ft. Benning with me in 1979, as part of another course. They couldn't find their way in the dark and didn't do much better in the daylight. One was a Vietnam vet, USMC. Guess, I never viewed Marines the sameagain. :D

Just saw an advertisement of a new show called "Supernatural" on wb11, And the guy makes a comment like "of course I'm afraid of the dark I know what's out there." Maybe Lungbuster saw the same one.

Geez, I have never seen a post that was misinterpreted so badly... Well, OK, maybe every other day here at Hunting.net :D:eek:, but I thought it was very clear that LungBuster was not afraid of the dark in the way of, "Oh please, don't turn off the lights!" but was stating that he is more concerned about running into the wackos that may already be in the woods.

I share a similar concern because where I hunt in Nebraska there is a really bad drug problem with meth. I found meth paraphernalia- two large dufflebags full of jars, beakers, etc.- stashed on my property two years ago. I have also had some sort of witch/demon worshipping crap going on about three years ago on my property. They would clear a circle in the fallen leaves about 10' in diameter and scribe all of their funky hieroglyphics in the dirt and light candles and incense and stuff. Probably just part of the Harry Potter craze gone too far, but who knows for sure.

So am I a little nervous going into my woods at night with the possibility that dope addicts are stashing their stuff near my tree stand and wackos worshipping demons and what not could be still out there? Sure I am. I stay alert at all times, stop abruptly at different intervals and listen closely, and keep an eye out behind me and shine my light all through the woods. I don't care what type of training you have. I was 4 years in the Marine Corps Infantry during the Reagan years and had every possible training you could get because I was in the 3rd Battalion 8th Marines that was the Presidential Reactionary Division at the time. That meant we had to be trained in every type of combat because we would be the first to go to any hot spot in the world onthe word of the President. That doesn't mean squat, though, when some wacko with no sense of right or wrong, or cares either way, steps out from behind a tree two feet away and stabs or shoots your arse. 9 times out of 10, you're going down, no matter how big and tough you think you are.

LungBuster also mentioned thetragedy in Wisconsin last year. I rarely ever approach any hunters in the woods any longer, even if they are trespasssing. Haven't for several years. What you're doing is approaching an armed individual with the intent of a confrontation, if you're going to tell them they're trespassing and get the hell offyour land. That's not a wise thing to do, in my way of thinking. Call the Game Wardens, they get paid to do that. Life is too short, deer are not that valuable, and I have a wife and kids to go home to.

Just my 2 cents.

I have to agree with you, that no matter how big, mean, or well trained you are, someone might get the drop on you before you have a chance to react. Even on private land, as evidenced in Wisconsin last year, you can't escape it. I've had people trespass on my land, and you always have to wonder what they are up to.
