RE: A little about you & your camp...

I bow hunt mostly by myself or with my hunting buddy and/or neighbor. Not much private land here in NJ, but I have some. I/we bow hunt about 7-10 Saturdays in the fall and some late afternoons when I escape from work early enough to get home before dark. Shotgun hunting I do the same, but more with my old hunting buddy as the private land is land that he secured.

Although it's neat to hunt with a buddy and trade status reports on what we saw or did not see...I do prefer some hunts to be by myself as it's more peaceful and less disturbing by not having another body in the woods spooking deer.

RE: A little about you & your camp...

I gun hunt out of a small camp in northern MI, about 20 miles in land from Lake Superior. We never get many Deer. There are about 13 guys who will come up and bring a gun, but only 5 or so I would say hunt. We cut back on the number of guys last year an it was alot nicer. We hunt state or CFR land, all with in about 5 miles of each other. For the last few years I have been baned from that spot and have to hunt a swamp west of my camp (alot better spot).

As for bow I have a stand me and a cusin share by our rifle camp. I make it up there about 3 times a season. Most of my bow hunting is done about 2 miles from my house. I have a stand there and I do some walking on a creek, it flows threw some great cover and feed areas. I think the land is CFR, and the city might own some of it. I make it outthere as much as I can. I have never counted the days I spend out there.

All in all I hunt areas with few deer and lots of cover, so I may not see many but when I do see one there is a good chance it is a nice buck.

This stuf is fun to read

RE: A little about you & your camp...

I used to hunt with my dad, but he's since lost all interest in hunting. I've also done some hunting with my uncle and a couple cousins, but I mostly hunt by myself. My wife has expressed interest in hunting with me, but she's too busy to get to a hunter safety class. Maybe when our daughter is a little older she'll be able to come with me too if she's interested (and I intend to try my best to see that she is).

As for where I hunt, I hunt public land around my area. I also go out to my uncle's land but he lives too far away to make it worth while to do day hunts or weekend hunts. If I go out there I usually take a week off and go.

99% of my hunting is done alone , usually during the week. Other times I have a friend that goes once a week, and when my son has off from school I take him for the gun season. This will be his secnd year. I start bowhunting in Sept. and Shotgun In late Nov. and continue to hunt till the seasons all end in mid Feb.

My wife and I bought 80 acres several years ago for an investment and to hunt on. So during the spring I hunt tukeys on it and the surrounding neighbors land, which is around 700 acres. after thats over I start getting in the food plots for deer n tukey. My dad comes down from MN, and hunts the rifle season with me, otherwise I bow hunt solo starting Oct. 1 thru till the end of season. I work weekends, fri, sat, sun, mon. so hunt when I can on tue, wed, thu. I take my oldest son hunting during the youth season and he also joins dad and I for a few days during the rifle season. My youngest will be joining us in another year. he just turned 6, and wants to go badly. Looking forward to it. I just finished building 3 new stands that are big enough for 2 so I can start taking the boys more often. Hopefully in a few years we will build on the property and move there.

I mainly hunt w/ my younger brother and brother-in-law. I also hunt every chance I get. I generally start hunting in Sept. bowhunting and dove hunting. I take off about 4 weeks total every fall and work 4ten hour days year round so all my weekend hunts are 3 day weekends.:DIn between deer hunting we turkey hunt, phesant hunt, squirrel hunt, and generally take a couple exotic hunt trips a year.

We do most of our hunting here in Missouri but take trips out of state to IA, IL, KS, TX, or OK when we can or get drawn.

HuntingNet has become my off season past time.
