The carbon battle continues
Ok I know there have been tons of discussion on arrows here but I need a reconemdation based on experience. Up here in Central Maine, there are two bow shops where I can buy arrows. One shop carries GoldTip XT and the other carries Super Carbon. Both arrows are just over 8.6 gr/in, .003 straightness and cost 79 per doz. What arrow would you go buy right now if you were looking for some new arrows?

RE: The carbon battle continues
If I had to pick one, I would go with the Gold Tips. I have never heard of the other arrows.

RE: The carbon battle continues
bigbuck--not sure if the figures you've got is on the ball.
Looks like you're talking about the 5575 arrows. The GT 5575 XT Hunter arrows are 8.2 gpi and a straightness tolerance of +/- .003". The Super Carbon Magum arrows 55/70 are 8.1 gpi with a +/- .003" S.T also. What's the make/model of bow, the bow's DW, your draw length and the arrow length, this info will better assist in finding you the better of the two shafts. However from what I have seen so far, you could be better off with the Gold Tip shaft. |
RE: The carbon battle continues
Super Carbons are a nice arrow. There are a couple shops around here that swear by them and have had better luck with them than the GT's. But I am sure there are dozens of other shops that fell differently.

RE: The carbon battle continues
I am shooting a Jennings trophy master. 29"@ 65 lbs.
I have also been looking into the Radial x wave by pse they have an arrow(hunter) with about the same specs. I really like the pse radial x weave pro but I cant see spending the extra money for the pros. I will be using these arrows for hunting mostly and the occasional shooting with friends. I will take any advice. Thanks. |
RE: The carbon battle continues
I have the pse radial weaves and won't be buying them again next time. The vanes don't want to stick worth a darn and the nocks come out to easy. My next set of arrows are going to be line cutters.

RE: The carbon battle continues
Working with what you've got, the Gold Tip XT Hunter 7595 weighing about 400 grains (total) will give you about 252 fps at the bow with about 56 KE. Out to 70 yards, the arrow velocity should be around 223 fps with about 44 KE.

ampa
would you go with the 7595 or the 5575? I am actuall right around 28.5" And could cut them down to 28. Either way I am right on the edge. |
RE: The carbon battle continues
Bigbuck--here's what you're looking at:- Shortening the shaft to 28" using 100 grain points, DW 65# and your DL 29".
The GT XT Hunter Black 5575 will weigh around 371 grains, at the bow will have a velocity of 262 ft/sec with a KE of 56. This arrow will be slightly 'underspined'--meaning that @ 65# pounds your bow will be about 6.3 # too heavy. Out to 70 yards the arrow (assuming the most perfect wind conditions) your arrow speed will be about 230 ft/sec with a KE of 44. Now with the XT 7595 Hunter Black (GT), your figures are almost the same. You'll have a KE at the bow of 56# but a 'bit' slower--254 ft/sec. Your speed at 70 yards will be 225 ft/sec 44 KE again, a little slower, but this time your bow will be about 6.1 # too light. In otherwords, you can crank down your limbs to 70 pounds and this arrow will work better. As it is overspined @ 65#. Better to be on the heavy side, less vibrations, noise, etc. If I were in your position I would opt for the heavier arrow. I wish I could have helped you a bit more--but the choice of arrows you have are limited and we're trying the get the 'best match' here. |
RE: The carbon battle continues
ampa you helped a ton thanks.

RE: The carbon battle continues
I shoot the XT 5575 at 28" with a 29" draw @ 72# and 100 grn tips. I weighed all of a dozen new arrows fletched and they averaged 389 grains. This according to GT spine chart says I'm on the edge for spine. I am getting 294fps and have had no spine problems with my tears or arrow flight. I had to go with the 5575's because of the low FOC I would get with the 7595's. It would have been right around 8% with the 7595's so I opted for the 5575's @ about 9.75% for longer shooting. Just an opinion, but I like the 5575's, but again would not have a problem buying the 7595's for hunting. I have to admit, it was a tough decision for me to choose one over the other, and I may give the 7595's a try the next dozen I buy.

RE: The carbon battle continues
IMO anyone who is considering switching to a carbon arrow and doesn't at least seriously consider the A/C/C is just plain missing the boat.

wrong thing

RE: The carbon battle continues
I was shooting a bow @70# and 28" draw and using 7595's @ 29" my speed was 256. I tried the 5575 and could not get the whip out of the tail of the arrow. I had no problem with the 7595's. Now I am shooting a bow that is a tad slower and switched back to the 5575's and shortened them 1 inch and they are flying great!!! Go down to the shop and try some out, they have to have a few laying around that you could test on your bow. Shoot them through some paper and do a little tuning and make your choice that way. Get the one that best fits your bow!!!
One note: When I had the 5575's they shot best at 65# or less with my old bow a Pearson Anaconda. I am shooting a Diamondback VX with a milder cam so they work much better on this set up. I have a Pearson Pride on its way and may be swithcing back to the 7595 due to the bow being much more agressive with the hybrid cam system. I may just go back to good old aluminum if the speed is around 250-260 fps, that is all I want as far as that goes. Good luck!!! Chris Team Pearson |
RE: The carbon battle continues
I would just go to Cabelas.com and pick the arrow that I wanted.

RE: The carbon battle continues
Double lung,
The problem is not knowing which one to pick. Bigbuck270 and I both shoot close to "the cut-off" point of the two weights of arrows. So we need to figure out which ones will be best for our bows. The owner of the local archery shop will help us with that. CABELAS won't. Also, the local shop will trim the arrows to our length for free, Cabelas won't. He's also cheaper than Cabelas, NOT counting shipping and handling. There are some things that I will buy from Cabelas, but this isn't one of them. |
RE: The carbon battle continues
Bigbuck,
I shoot 7595 GT shafts and they are the best shafts I've shot yet. I don't have any experience with the super carbon so my opinions are obviously bias. I bought the dozen shafts last spring and am still shooting the original 4 I set up. Each of those shafts have well over 500 shots on them and I've yet to see any spine deteriation. They shoot as well as the day I set them up. I am shooting 7595 29.75" shafts from my Firestorm 30"dl 74 lbs. Spine seems to be right for my bow. I didn't have much problen tuning the bow and have been getting good consistent arrow flight. I hope this helps some. :) |
