apa twister fall away rest
I was wondering what people thought of this rest, it looks like a very good hunting rest. I have not seen any in person and was wanting to hear what people thought.

RE: apa twister fall away rest
ash,
I picked up the first version of this rest last February after the ATA show as I was impressed with it on some of our demo bows.......it did not disappoint. I have literally thousands of shots thru mine, used it for the entire abusive all weather hunting season and it worked flawlessly. I have said it many times over the last year, why this thing isn't the MOST popular hunting drop away rest is beyond me? It has TRUE full containment peace of mind and the attributes of the best drop away rests on the market. It's dead silent, very adjustable and this year's version is improved over last year's initial model. The "cage" is a little larger and much beefier, and the "Safari" model uses custom Slick Tubes on the launchers, the tuning and set up has been refined and the mounting bracket styled a little better. I still have my original one on my Bowtech Liberty and a brand new Twister "Safari" in the package awaiting my new Allegiance. They have a side loading "SL" model but the arrow loading never bothered me anyway so I chose the Safari model with the slick tubes. It's as accurate as any rest I've ever used, in fact I'm shooting mine for my 3D league by default as my target bow has not arrived yet and I'm shooting double digit points up on most shoots with my Liberty hunting set-up. It's simply an awesome rest. I don't work for APA or anything, I am just impressed with it enough to sort of be it's ambassedor.:) To me it's the closest thing to the perfect hunting rest as you can get. I have previously used Muzzy Zero Effect, Trophy Taker reg and Shakey hunter, NAP quiktune drop aways and a Trophy ridge Drop Zone, and I like this one the best. After shooting the Twsiter I couldn't imagine shooting an open style drop away rest for hunting ever again. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
I have to agrre withthe ultimate hunting rest, total containment and a fall away. Can you use helical fletching?
|
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Ash,
Yes you can use any fletching combo you choose, there's enough room to fit. I was shooting a 5" vaned full helical Gold Tip through my original one last night just to check something on my bow and works perfectly. The new cage is even a touch bigger so fletch size isn't an issue, there is no contact or anything to go around. The arrow just flies dead through the center of the rest. I just love the aspect of draw and shoot, even with the Muzzy Zero Effect I still would glance down at the rest to make sure that the arrow was in position, with the Twister it's a non-issue.......if the arrow isn't in position when you draw then it fell off onto the ground without you noticing.:D With the Torphy takers and such I was paranoid about the arrow being picked up. They are solid rests but not my style in a treestand. You never have to take your eyes off your target. |

awesome,thanks matt

RE: apa twister fall away rest
While I can't say I am as impressed with it as Matt, I will say that the rest works very well. It's quiet and easy to tune. Setup is simple and it offers full containment with good vane clearance. I tested last years model and it worked nicely with 4" vanes or feathers. The 5" fletch was a bit big to get complete clearance without a lot of playing with nock positiion. If you like the idea of a full capture rest and a drop away I would recomend it without hesitation.

RE: apa twister fall away rest
Mine has preformed flawlessly with thousands of shots through it. This year however, I am going with the MZE just for something different.
|
RE: apa twister fall away rest
I use the APA Twister and think it is an awesome rest. I have never had any trouble.

RE: apa twister fall away rest
Do you put hush tubes or felt on this arrow rest?

RE: apa twister fall away rest
With the SL version I would reccommend putting the fleece on that is supplied with the rest. I don't think it could get any quietter.

RE: apa twister fall away rest
Does the arrow go through the pentagon shape?
They should say more about how it works on the website. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Yes, they arrow goes through the pentagon shape. I have never used this rest but I know that the arrow does go throught there. I think the mangler could tell you more I think he may have an inside connection;)
|
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Yes the arrow goes through the pentagon shaped cradle. Here is a pic of the rest on a bow with the arrow in it.

RE: apa twister fall away rest
I am going to try the APA Twister Safari on ny new Allegiance if and when it ever comes in( I have been waiting 5+ weeks now ). I will post the results after it is tuned and sighted in.
|
RE: apa twister fall away rest
I will be excited to see if this rest has enogh horizontal movement for the allegiance. I have seen some posts where some the other drop aways don't. You have been waiting 5 weeks, where did you order it from. I can't even find them in my area.
|
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Ash2042,
I am going to contact APA monday to ensure it will work on my Allegiance. I hope it does it looks like a real winner. Where I ordered it can't help you out I am from Calgary, Alberta. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Allegiance05-----5 weeks isn't all that bad--lol.If your bow is coming from North Sylvia you may be waiting a little longer.
I ordered the Patriot last year and came in 2-3 days shy of 2 months,I wasnt to impressed with the wait but I sure was impressed when the bow finally arrived. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Allegiance........no need to call APA to see if it will work on an Allegiance...... It does.
It works great as a matter of fact. I have one on my Liberty all season (since last February) and we had the new Safari and Twister SL's on some of our bows at the ATA show, including the Allegiance. You probably DO need to contact them to get one though.....I think it has only started to ship to dealers so your best bet would be to contact them directly. The APA Twister Safari is the exact rest that I will be using on my Allegiance when it arrives. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Mark down one more believer in the Ultimate Twister!:) I put one on my Hoyt this past fall, sighted in and went out a couple days later and shot a big fat doe for the freezer! I am getting a new Bowtech soon, and will be going to the Safari model on the Old Glory. With out a doubt, the BEST rest going!!:D

RE: apa twister fall away rest
Yes the arrow goes through the pentagon shaped cradle. Here is a pic of the rest on a bow with the arrow in it. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
Terry,
You are looking at the rest with the launcher fully raised and ready to shoot.......when the arrow is released, the rest supports it just long enough to get it going straight, and then it twists straight down allowing the arrow to fly through the middle of it. There is no fletching contact at all. You get the full containment benefits of the Whisker Bisquit but none of the fletching contact that you get from that rest. |
RE: apa twister fall away rest
I ordered My Twister Safari Today will have it in 5 days. Direct from APA. They were very nice on the phone. Didn't get them the first call but left mesage and they calle back within 30 min. I'd recomend calling direct. 86 plus shipping.

RE: apa twister fall away rest
Mine came in today sure looks like a good one. Now if I only had my Allegiance to put it on and try it out. I striclty bowhunt for now so I am really excited about how it is going to work for Spring Bear.
I would also like to point out that APA has already offered to help set it up over the phone if I have any troubles. How is that for customer service!! |
