Ok, how about ASAT camo?
This came up in the natural gear thread. Anyone using this brand of camo? The 3-d suit? If so, any problems while bowhunting? I'd love to hear about your take on it. Thanks.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Been using some fleece ASAT for 3 yrs, really like it. Generally think camo is overrated, at least for deer hunting, but I think this stuff works much better at breaking your outline than most. At first glance, that tan background looks like it would never blend with October woods, but you have to see somebody wearing the stuff in the woods to get the real picture. The tan sort of takes on the tint of whatever is around it, & the black stripes mess with your depth perception. Looks like the stripes are closer than the background color, for lack of a better description.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
I really like the look of the ASAT & have been wanting to try it out. To me I see no reason why it shouldn't very well on big game.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Can someone give me ASAT's website address?
Thanks. Bryan |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
I use the light cotton asat for early bow season. It is cool and light and have no trouble with the deer seeing it. Have been using it for a few years.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rangeball, I've been wearing ASAT for many many years. In fact, I had the ASAT team, Tim Lenartz and Chuck Pensyl, hunting with me this past spring turkey season I showed them some fatigues and a hat so old they gasped at them. Then low and behold ASAT was hard to find and I went to Preditor Fall Brown which was the next best camo on the market. Anyway, the new 3D by ASAT is simply put, incredible. You'll truly be invisible to game and humans alike for the first time ever. I've put it on and sat in the woods out back my log home for guests and had them try to pick me out, in green woods, fall etc..and they have a hard time and this is when they knew I'm there.
Some memorable hunts I had while wearing ASAT was when a flock of turkeys came through the woods while I was heading to my stand. I stood frozen on a logging/tram road as the flock split around me. I had birds at 3 ft. until I moved my head and the forest errupted in feathers...lol I couldn't believe. If you remember the picture I once posted of my elk hunt. I wore ASAT then and I had my elk at 33 yards, I was on one knee in the open and the bull looked past me towards my guide which allowed me to draw, and connect with my first bull elk. Simply put, he never saw me. Go to www.lenartz.com and research it. You'll be amazed at what you might learn. This is the camo that desert storm military men picked as their best ally against human visuals, against infra red and our snipers picked out to get in tight for their shots. When these soldiers lives where on the line, they relyed on ASAT to keep them invisible. Most people scoff at it because of the lack of green. Look at it this way, if green was so great for camo, why did God make preditor/prey animals brown, black and tan. Think about it, what color is a deer? They hide incredibly in the open don't they? What color is a lion, coyote, female birds, etc.....that's right black, brown and tan. Check it out. <font color=blue>Good Luck and Good Shooting</font id=blue> <font color=red>Rob</font id=red> Edited by - Rob/PA Bowyer on 09/02/2002 22:15:35 |

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rob, did you bowhunt with the ASAT 3D suit? If so, did you have to modify it at all to prevent inteference with the string?
Thanks for the heads up on this stuff. I'm leaning it's way :) |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rangeball, I have not bowhunted with the 3D suit. I did ask that question to them and it isn't a problem. I got to thinking about it and can't for the life of me figure how there could be one. I'll put it on and do some shooting tomorrow evening.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
That would be great Rob. I'm looking to pull the trigger on a suit purchase very soon, would love to hear your experience first.
|
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rangeball, shot a little with the jacket on and had no problems. Now mind you I didn't bulk up on cloths, too darn hot tonight, but still with proper form, I had no problem. The material is very light and shouldn't interfere with the string at all, no more/less than hitting smooth cloth anyway.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Thanks Rob.
I had Chuck call me today what a great guy. We spoke for a couple of hours. BTW he speaks very highly of you Rob. He gave me his Personal guarrantee on the gear. I ordered the 3d suit and the archers jacket. I am looking forward to trying it out on the 28th. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Thanks Ausie <img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> , lol you should sit and have a couple beers with Chuck, he's a riot and not a nicer guy you could find.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Just ordered a 3-d suit. Thanks again for the heads up, Rob. For those interested, they have a batch of the suits that had the 3-d layer burned a little more than usual during manufacturing, only requires a few more washings to get them to perform as regular, they got a heck of a deal on them, $80 for the suit.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
No problem Rangeball, great product, great people.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rob, could you elaborate on how many times you had to wash your 3-d suit and how you went about it to get the desired "leaf" affect? Mines on it's way, and they told me I'd have to wash it more, due to the "burn-defect", but I'd like to get a clue to how much is more. Thanks.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rangeball
I ordered one as well Chuck told me to wash it 6 to 8 times and it should be good as new. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Does it require drying in between each washing cycle? I'm thinking of putting mine in a 5 gallon bucket with water and detergent, letting it soak, hanging it to dry then repeating several times...
|
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
I am just going to wash and put mine in the dryer after each wash.
Thats what Chuck told me to do on the phone. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
That's odd. The guy I talked to, I think it was Tim, told me NOT to use the dryer, ever. He said to hang it to dry. Now I'm confused...
|
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Rangeball, You probably talked with Tim Lenartz and I remember hearing them say the same thing back in Gobbler Season.
To be honest, I haven't washed mine from the spring season when they handed it to me. I don't think I'll use the dryer tho. I'll have to ask Chuck the next time we talk. <font color=blue>Good Luck and Good Shooting</font id=blue> <font color=red>Rob</font id=red> |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
here is a part of an email I just got from Chuck.
as for the dryer, I've washed several sets in hot water/warm rinse and then thrown them in the dryer at hot heat at least 6 times with absolutely no adverse effects on the fabric, but normal washings are supposed to be cold water wash and hang dry, with is the safest bet for long lasting care. If it doesn't hold up, we'll give you a new one, so give it a try, Russell. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Another reason to own ASAT and Chuck is a hell of a guy isn't he?

Nice guy is an understatement From the dealings I have had with Chuck he is a great guy. It means a lot to me when one of the principals of a company give you his personal guarrantee on the product. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
I had some pictures and a video sent to me from ASAT about the product. The photo's looked good but the video didn't do anything to convince me that it was that much better than any other camo. I'm sure there are folks (like Rob/PABowhunter) who use ASAT successfully so I won't knocks it's effectiveness. I personally just like Predator much better.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
is this hot to wear in warm weather? I'm thinking of ordering one also!!!!
|
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Well from what Chuck was telling me it is not hot to wear and you can wear just about anything you want under it or go nekkid under it.
Mine has not turned up yet should be here in a couple of days so I will make a further comment on it then. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
The 3D suits are not hot to wear, in fact just the opposite, they are cool depending on the undergarments. That's what is nice about the suits, in hot weather you can dress cool, short sleeve, etc and it doesn't have to be camo undergarments, the suit will camoflauge you regardless what you wear under it. In cold weather, you simply layer for the weather and wear the ASAT 3D suit for your camo.

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
thanks Rob,
I will order this suit, I'm heading out to south texas for a pig hunt and wanted to know if i had to go nekked under this thing because of the heat, I live in upstate ny here we are starting to get cooler weather..... which is better than last year when i could walk around in shorts and a tee shirt during deer season,, I'm hoping this suit will blend in anywhere!!!!!!! |

RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
OK, you guys have convinced me. I have looked at ASAT several times and with the "sale" price decided now is the time to try them. Just hope I can get them washed that many times before I get to hunt. Opening day here in GA is this weekend but as usally I will be working but hope to be "invisble" in the woods the following weekend. Us newbies need everything in our favor.

I am in the DFW area of Texas and we still have temps in the 90's. So Best bet would be to bring some shorts and T-Shirts with you to wear underneath. ![]() |

It turned up this morning in the mail. I was out at my hunting spot doing some more scouting. I have washed it twice so far and the burnt edges are going away it should be as good as new after a few more washes. So far I am very impressed with it. I also got the archers jacket but my wife took one look at it and sort of claimed it.I think I am going to have to hide it from her<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
I have washed mine 5 times now and just got back from some target practice.
What I did find that my string was hitting some of the leaves on my left arm but as soon as I put the arm guard on it was fine no contact. Just about all the burnt edges are gone now and the meterial leaves are soft and pliable and should be perfect after another wash or two. I will give the suit a real good test on Sat 28th OPENING day. ![]() |
RE: Ok, how about ASAT camo?
Aussie, I just got my suit as well. Do you think drying it between washings is mandatory to remove the burning? I'd love to put mine through about 8 wash cycles tomorrow, but would like to skip the drying until the burning is gone. What'cha think?
