Amerstep Non Typical or Summit Goliath??

I would say go with the Summit and you will not be sorry. I'm not familiar with Ameristep so I will not comment on them. I have used Summit, API and Lone Wolf in the past. I'm now back to a Summit and could not be happier. I can hunt all day in the Summit with little discomfort, it is rock solid and is simple to set up in the dark. I do not shoot sitting down but I would imagine the bar could get in the way depending on the angle of the shot. Summit has great customer service and they also come with an excellent safety harness.

I had an Ameristep Grizzly and ended up hocking it on Ebay. [:-]
Simply put: Get the Summit - you won't be sorry! The Goliath is a big man's stand (350# rating) and made of lightweight aircraft aluminum. The padded bar does NOT get in the way. Raise the seat straps so you sit higher up for bowhunting. Lower the straps down for gun hunting. Simple as that.
Other things to consider: Summits are made in Decatur, AL. Ameristep's are heavy gauge steel and are made in China.

The Goliath is my favorite stand. It is quiet, comfortable and very easy to use. It has a lot of nice features and the weight is reasonable for the comfort level. Yes the bar gets in the way and you will have to stand to shoot, but it makes a nice place to lay your bow on just adds to a more secure and comfortable experience for me. I think you will love the Goliath.
