Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
If I place the seat hight enough on a sit and climb will I be able to bowhunt w/o the sides affecting my shot?
|
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
I don't have the new seat and backrest like you will have but, this is part of the reason I didn't like the Summit I had tried out. Its easier to shoot while sitting down from the Lone Wolf than it is in a Summit.

theNUGE15........I've been thinking the same thing........I can't decide between the sit and climb or hand climber. My fear (with any climber) is the the rails that hold up the seat and on some models, the armrests, will get inthe way of the bow. Will the riser hit on some shots?
Thanks! |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Well guys,
After using the Lonewolf Alpha hand climber for a while, I finally got tired of a sore back, and went back to my Summit. Yes, the Lonewolf is perfect for bowhunting. It is TRULY quiet, compact, EASY to transport, and provides for a perfect bow shot every time, however, it just isn't a comfortable stand. Even if you use a better cushion, it still hurts your back after only a short time. You just can't make a stand of this nature as comfortable as a Summit (or similar) type stand. Heck, even a Summit will hurt your back after so many hours. Anyhow, they are both good stands, but I have been bowhunting out of the Summit Viper (and now the new X4) for a while, and I just stand up on every shot and there is no problem with interference. This has just been my experience with the two. NOW, You asked about the sit and climb, and not the hand climber, and I've always wanted to try that model out, as I know it is more comfortable than the hand climber, but still not that of a Summit. I think it is also an excellent stand, but you've got to decide if standing up and shooting is right for you, and also if long sits with back pain are ok with you too! One day they will have the perfect stand out (maybe!). |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
You may have jumped the gun too fast.I just got the new LW replacement seat last week. It's every bit as comfortable as the summit but it folds back real nice when you stand to shoot. It does hang below the side rails so it's tough to shoot sitting down unless the deer is directly in front of you or slightly off to the side.In my opinion, the only thing any other stand had over the lw was comfort. Not any more. The new seat is very confortable and gives excellent back support.
I personally don't like side rails when I bowhunt so I usually use the hand climber top.I will use the new sit and climb top in rifle season because it allows me to sit all day and the side rails act as a decent support when you shoot to the left.I just adjust the top low enough so I can shoot with my elbows supported on my knees for strait away shots. The competotion diesn't even compare to LW since they added this new seat. |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
DougE you can't raise the seat on the lone wolf?
|
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Doug, what does the LW replacement seat cost?
|
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
The seat it's self is not adjustable.I believe they made the straps long enough so it slides all the way back when you stand to shoot. That bothered me at first but I'd rather be able to slide the seat back than sit closer to the rails.Besides that, having the seat lower allows you to use the side rails as a nice armrest.
The new seat comes as a kit with new hardwear for $29.It takes about three minutes to swap. |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
You know, for several months I have been going back and forth between Summit and LW. It seems like Summit has really made some changes in their product line to compete directly with LW, like the Bullet Backpacker.
I guess my question is whether the LW is really $100 better than the Backpacker or one of the other comparable products? |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Cost is a relative thing.I've blown alot of money on different treestands over the years before settling on the Lonewolf. If you get ten years out of it,that 100 bucks breaks down to 10 dollars a year.I found my hand climber for $229 last year over the internet,I wish I could remember the place but it was about $70 less than any one else.I have seen the hand climber in stores around here for $275.

Doug,
Where did you get the seat from? The old seat is the only complaint that I have about that stand. Thanks. |

You can get the new seat directly from LW.
Why is the LW better than the summit? That's easy.It used to be the only thing the Summit had over the LW was comfort. They no longer have that advantage.I'm not saying the Summit is a bad stand but this is why the LW is better.First, there is absolutely no comparison as far as quitness goes. The LW is much quieter setting up,climbing and shifting your weight around in.The attchement sytem is much easier and more adjustable with the LW.The summit can be noisy snaking the cable through the tube in the stand and it only adjusts in 3 inch increments. In short,it's noisier and harder to get the right angle on the tree.I also don't like the way the seat on the Summit doesn't slide back when you stand to shoot.Last ,the LW is much more packable and less bulky to carry through the brush. Both stands climb easily. Both are stable and now both are very comfortable. The lone wolf wins every other category hands down. |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Well I got the stand today and I am very pleased. The seat will flip back with the long straps but it won't push back because one of the straps is in front of the guide rail. I'm going to rig it so I can sit up higher for bow season and lower for gun by putting detachable conecting straps around the top. All in all I think this is an awesome stand and is definately worth the money. I had a summit and this stand is far superior.

RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Just recieved my Summit Goliath X4 a few days ago,,been up and down the tree in my backyard about a dozen times already (this past few days) doing extended sits ,,shooting the bow and i gotta tell ya that is the most comfortable thee most solid stand climber i've ever owned,, it may be just a wee bit on the heavy as far as packing but i don't usually have that far to go to locate a good area and besides i'd sacrifice a little extra wieght for a good roomy and comfortable climber.:)

RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Congratulations Nuge, I know you won't be disappointed. As for me, I am going to order the new seat for mine.:)

RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Cougar your going to definately want to modify the seat somehow. As it is now it has really long straps that make the seat flop and twist around. Also theres no way to hold it back while your climbing so you have to rig something that will hold it back. I think they did an awesome job they might have just ran out of time making the new seat for this year. I wouldn't be suprised if they modified it for next year. Also how do you adjust the backpack straps while its on your back.

RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Do you just let them hang and blow in the wind when your hunting?
|
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Hey }} },,for extra comfort get some of those closed cell foam pads, you know the kind that little kids like to beat each other up with,,get the closed ones not the split kind just long and big enough to fit over your existing straps and they are real comfortable.

RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
I ordered a Lone Wolf hand climber today! Can't wait to get it. Just curious if any of you have camo painted their Lone Wolfs? I like to break up the stand and any of the shiny black aluminum. What did you guys use for paint, did you have to primer?
thanks! |
RE: Lone Wolf Sit and Climb while bowhunting?
Cloud 9,
I didn't paint mine because of the smell. I got camo duct tape and put it on the black areas of the stand. Works great. Dave |
