Which broadhead?
I am black bear hunting in Ontario this fall and am wondering about broadhead selection. I am looking at the Rocket Aerohead ultimate steel, the thunderhead and the Montec G5 all in 100 grains. I have used the thunderhead in the past but have heard great things about the Montec and the Rocket broadheads. I am just not sure about the rocket because the cutting diameter is only 7/8". What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Then go with a larger cutting Rocket. If you're able to use mechs there for Bear then you shouldn't hesitate to use a Rocket, MANY Bear hunters use these for excellent penetration and great blood trails. Steelheads and Sidewinders would get my vote depending on your KE levels. Good luck.

I too am going to Ontario this Sept on a black bear hunt/ fishing trip. I was wondering what broadhead to use also. Everyone says that any head you use for whitetail will work for black bear. But since I need some new broadheads anyways... I'm in the same boat as you. I'm considering the steel force Ti 100, Montecs (bought be dad some of these for his Bday last year and he's really impressed w/ them), old Muzzy 90 4blade standby, ect.. finding it hard to justify $30 per 3 broadheads though. Decisions Desicions.

I am also considering broadheads for bear hunting, Montec G5, steel force, and 3 blade muzzy, all 100 gr. I have bought the practice Montec G5's, I have not shot them yet, hoping to in the next week hear. I use Muzzy for dear, great broad head in my book. I am hoping that the Montec G5's fly good and also got 4 arrows that have the quick spin on them have to try them too.

The guy's here in Ontario use Thinderhead's for bear but lately I've heard from some of them that Montec's are next to put on that list. I don't know of a lot of hunters here in Ont that use Mechanical's most use fixed heads, why? I'm not sure since i've never hunted bear yet with my bow. But what I can say is that I use Steelforce for hunting moose and they are an absolutely a great broadhead for hunting any large game.

I like Muzzys so much, I don't think I'll ever change. I shoot 90 gr 4 blade for deer. They work great. I would think that any quality, sharp broadhead ought to perform satisfactorily. If you hit them right with a good sharp head, they're dead.
