Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Anyone try one of those Thermocell units for mosquitos? Do they actually work?
Or are they just handy for scratching the hard to reach places in the middle of your back?:D |
RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Actually they work pretty well !! Surprised me !!

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
The best thing I have found to fight these buggers down south is to simply cover yourself head to toe. I usually where a light pair of pants an T shirt then slip my leafy where on top of that.

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Yes - they do work well -- when there is no wind, or a slight breeze. When it's windy, you'd better cover up and leave it at home.

I was going to put that also......but with much of a wind...usually misquitoes aren't bad anyway !! I guess a light wind is what you would watch out for ! BTW.....I'll be wearing my Bug Tamer jacket......thermocell or not !! ;) |
RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Works great , for no-see-ums allso . Believe me Im from Florida . Thermasill and bugtamer are invaluable down here .

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
I used one in SC last Oct. I hunted in an Ameristep blind that was setup at least a month before I hunted it. When I slipped into the blind I discovered at least 1,000 mosquitoes. I fired up my ThermaCELL and they couldn't get out of there fast enough. ThemaCELL's definitely work.

They work fantastic. Best thing ive found to repel mosquitos and noseeums. No more bug spray.

BOWFANATIC--can you provide a link where I could read more on the Thermocell--sounds like something I would be interested in.
The 'black flies' and mosquitos are now out and they make my time in the turkey blind quite uncomfortable. Would this also work for the 'black flies' or is it just a mosquito chaser? Thanks. |

Do not leave camp without Thermacell! I've had mine 4 years and it is still going strong....

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
If your taking about around your home to say, Bats are a way to virtually eliminate mosquitoes in an area. "When mosquitoes are abundant, a little brown bat can catch up to 600 in one hour."

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Does this thing make any kind of noise?
|
RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
The only noise it makes it when you first turn it on - a "click" similar to a butane BBQ pit - but not nearly as loud.
|
RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Thanks Bow--just ordered myself one and a few spare mats & cartridges.
|
RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Darn--just received a reply from Bass Pro that the ThermaCell cannot be shipped to Canada due to some restrictions--consider Hazardous--anyone coming to Brampton Ontario soon--;).

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
They do work, but interestingly, they have the same active ingredient that are contained in the mosquito coil. Albeit, the active ingred is less in the coil vs. the thermacell, i suspect it is partly due to the therm being indirectly heated vs. the coil actually being lite. I will be trying the coil in my stand since they are hugely less expensive. I'll have both, but if the coil works and doesn't cause a problem from the glow, i will make the switch permanently.

RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
I just ordered a large display rack for my shop. This was done on the word of several customers who have them and swear by them. Not just regular customers, these were guys that are businessmen and who I really trust.
As far as the wind, yes it will curtail the effectiveness. In a strong wind you shouldn't even attempt to use it. Nor would it be needed. As far as shipping, yes you might be hit with hazardous shipping charges. You might be better off finding a local source. We Dealers pay a set hazardous charge on the entire lot so that it is amortized in the price and hardly noticeable. |
RE: Mosquitos -vs- Thermocell
Len you should do well with them. The shop I work at sold a bunch. Make sure you have plenty of the refills. I also bought one and used it while fishing with my 4yr old at a farmers pond. It worked great. It does claim to be scent free but I noticed a little bit of oder. Check it out for yourself. JMHO.;)
