Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
What have you found to be more succesfull?

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Stalking (still-hunting) is best left to the very patient and skilled still-hunter. The deer will always have the advantage. The deer can see your movement long before you might see them. If you are not directly downwind from the deer, you may be moving your scent to them when you still-hunt.
Your gear and your attire must be applicable to moving through the terrain with as much comfort and ease as possible. Often this requires that you dress and equip light to reduce fatigue and perspiring. In cold weather, you will often be cold when remaining stationary for periods. Your footwear should be light. Therefore, the insulating rating will be gauged on moving, not stationary. When I totally shot recurve, I still-hunted often. It is tough and often unproductive. I have good success using stationary ground positions and natural ground blinds. I still move on the ground at times, but only to move to what I know to be areas the deer will move through during different periods of the day. However, I will only do so when the wind is in my favor and I have totally glassed the area I will be moving through and to. |

for me it is waiting in a tree stand

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Love my ground blind no more trees![8D]

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Treestands, been thinking of getting a blind, just dont have confiedence in them.

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I hunt mostly by deer stand. I bought a ground tent blind last year and tryed it but I had a hard time shooting out of it. You can not sit in a chair and shoot, you can only be sitting on your knees and feet. I had a little trouble shooting in that position. The shooting holes are to low to the ground. If you guys have any good ideas let me know.

Here in Oregon, the achery season is open for both deer and elk at the same time.
I usally am hunting elk most of the time, during the rut. Deer (mule deer) come as a bonus. I spot and stalk, or set up on the ground by a water hole or by a well used game trail. Camo |

Out here in the northwest, I tend to call, listen, walk and stalk. Also use my nose, as you can smell them rank bulls, alot of times, before you hear them or see them...

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Stalk, put your hunting skills to the test.
I get too bored sitting in a tree. The only time I have tried a ground blind I fell asleep.;) |
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Considering my size, my lack of patience and the area I hunt I have found both treestands and ground blinds to work very well for me. It depends specifically on the situation at hand.

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I mostly hunt from the trees. Especially when bowhunting. I just love it up there! I could sit all day and watch. One of the things that gets me out of my stand is a blustery cold day. I'll sit 'till I can't stand it anymore. The other is a blood trail!;)

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I like sittin in a tree.:)
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I get bored on the ground, I move way to much and I can't see for sh!t. Tree stand hunting is the best.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I sit either in a treestand or ground blind during Bow season. I may stalk during gun season.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I do all three but I like to sit in a stand the most.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Sitting has seemed to be more succesful, but i like stalking more. It all depends on what im hunting. Deer i like tree stands, turkeys i like ground blinds, and pigs i like stalking.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I do most of my hunting from a treestand because it' give me a much better view of what's moving around in the bush.I only hunt from a ground blind to hunt turkey's but might try my luck this fall on the ground with a decoy.

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I hunt out of a tree stand, preferably about 20-22 feet up. It gets your scent off the ground, and the view is often times breathtaking. Plus, I do not tend to get as bored.

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
strictly tree stands for me
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
For me, it depends on a lot of things....
What game am I hunting? What time of the year is it? What is the terrain like? I will consider these and adjust my tactics. |
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
where i hunt here in western wash. it's mostly a walk and stalk or walk and wait..

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Stalk, ground blind, tree stand, depends on circumstances such as where, when and what you are hunting to make any technique work for you. Ground blinds are not my first choice but sometimes the right spot does not have a tree or on an in season scouting trip which occur when hunting new areas out of state you do not always have a tree stand to put in a tree. While still hunting, I carry a small stool in my day pack and set up a ground blind when I happen upon a spot that shows promise. If, sign, wind, cover is right, I set up my stool against a tree, my bow holder in the ground in such a position that I can pick up and draw my bow with minimal movement, make myself as comfortable as possible and wait. When hunting on the ground, scent control is even more critical than when hunting up in a tree.

RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
Both. Depends on the situation.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
It's not an either/or question for me. I use both methods. I'll sit in a blind and bushwack a deer. If they don't come in, I'll go after them. One of the benefits of a ground blind is the ability to do a stalk if the deer pick a different trail than the one you set up on. If you're in a treestand you're... well, you're up a tree. No way to get down without getting busted.
Perching in a tree is fer the birds. ;) |
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
tree stands can be successful, but you can't beat a double bull blind on the ground.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
I have hunted from stands and Double Bull groundblinds in recent years and I definately have had more success from treestands.
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
well i have never seen a deer in a tree yet just hunters i have stalked for quite a few years i do use natural blinds when i find them i did purchase a tree stand the vue is great but the areas i hunt i know really well i know where the deer are most of the time i prefer being on the ground where i hunt
|
RE: Do you stalk or wait:blind/tree stand
