Zebra-Twist String??????????????
Is there alot of difference in which brand string you put on your bow. I just read were someone said not to put another Zebra-Twist String on their bow. whats up with that?
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I've had someone said that the Zebra string stretches too much. I think they said it stretched 3/8" after 250 shots
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
They stretch!!!!! Big time. I mean, they're great strings, quiet, durable, and smooth. But, there small diameter, and soft, so they stretch big time. And, they're not as fast. Go with a winners choice or find someone who can custom make you a string out of Bohning 450 plus.

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
They do stretch bad......most of mine have setled in after a while . If I were getting new strings though......I'd go with WInner's Choice or something comparable !!

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I removed the Zebra from my LX and put on a string by ProString Archery. Shel makes a top notch string and cable. Mine is made of BCY8125 and I gained speed. I would never put another Zebra on my bow.
Check out ProString, they are nice. www.prostring.com |
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
Zebra strings creep like crazy. Winners Choice, Berry Strings, Vaportrail, and Stone Mountain all make top quality strings that are vastly superior to the Zebras. Personally, I build my own when I got tired of spending money for them every 6 months.

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
Question on the other strings mentioned: Do they have opposite twist so that I don't need to use a rubber tube to align my peep? My zebra is going on 4 years old and after the first 300 shots nothing has changed, nock point, poundage, fps, accuracy. I guess I'm pleased so far, but mostly the peep alignment is a huge plus.
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
To be honest, contrary to mathews advertising, the reverse twists do nothing for peep stabilization and consistancy. I have used Winners Choice, and after about 10 shots to get them settled in the peep never moves again. They do not use the reverse twists either. My personal strings take slightly longer to settle in, about 15 - 20 shots, and I do not have any peep problems, and they do not have reverse twists either. The key is serving tension, equal load on the string strands themselves when laying out the strings, and quality material.

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
zebra strings stink--they definetly stretch---and when they do you fight your peep alignment.you would think mathews would offer a better string on there bows---but i guess since they manufacture them in bulk they got to much money tied up.you would think they would produce a much higher quality string.mine stretches about 1/2in every year.but they wont next year because i am definetly not going to waste my money on them any more

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I'm wondering why I haven't had any problems with my zebras then? I'm not saying that they are good or bad, am I just lucky? All I know is that my peep goes right to my eye on this bow, and it wasn't even close on my last one.In my book that is important.
I might try winners choice when I need a new string, I hope I won't be disappointed. Doesn't Mathew's make another string, "Tiger String" that is supposed to be higher performance than the zebra. Anyone tried it? |
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
Handles, I know alot of guys that shoot Zebras and never have problems. It just seems that I here more complaints about Zebras than any other string out ther for whatever reason.

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I have owned 5 different Mathews bows, all with Zebra strings. I never had a problem with the string stretch and twisting until 2002. The string on my legacy stretched, but not to the point that it was unworkable. The string on my LX was absolutely horrible. It stretched for 3 months. It is in my gear box now and I think it is still stretching!
Mathews owns Zebra strings, therefore, we may never see any other strings offered on their bows. My opinion is that something changed in the manufacturing process in 02-03 that was not a good. Put on a Winners Choice string and it has not moved at all! |
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I have had my feather max for about 5 yrs how do I check to see if the string has stretched. I really never gave it much thought untill now. I guess when it was new I could have marked it some way to keep an eye on it. it did seem to shoot better when it was new but it could be I shot it more then too.
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
Mathews went the new string material on the LX to keep the top shooters happy. The first thing that came off was the string. I have never known anyone to be dissapointed with a winners choice. I would not have any other on my bows.

RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I too must be lucky. After a couple thousand shots with my Legacy, my peep is still where it was put. No rubber tube to bother with. Not sure why my Zebra Twist is any better than anyone elses, but you can find unhappy Winner Choice users too. [&:] This bow is two years old and still tops out at 62 pounds. It's considered a 60, so I'd guess it hasn't stretched much?
Just my thoughts on the string. |
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I used to use the Zebra's. They stretched on me, but not that bad. I tried the Tiger Twist made out of 452 and really like it. No problems so far with ~4k shots
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
Love Mathews bows, don't like their strings. I replace them on new bows with Winners Choice.
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
how much do WC strings cost, what are some good comercial ones that i might be able to pick up at a bow shop.
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I put a winners choice string and buss cables on my LX for 80.00. Have thousands of shots through it and it still looks like new. The factory strings on the LX have a spot without serving on them down by the cam, At least mine did. The winners choice compensated for that and served the area of my concern. The LX owners might know the spot I am talking about. Unless it was just a mistake on my bow. Any way, I am totally happy with the setup now.
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
The fact that bow strings stretch out never struck me, Winners Choice is a supperior strength so I've heard. What do you think is the best replaceable string for Mathews bows, say the Outback?
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
For you guys that have switched strings on the Mathews, I have a question, I am in need of a new string, I still have the original Zebra String on my LX, but I need a new one! Which is preferred for the material for a Winners Choice String (BCY 8125 or 452), and what do you guys use for the Roller Guards, I have heard that the X-Coat does not work too well with them???
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
JeffK, I think we both are in the same situation[:o] I think I will put the Winners Choice on the new outback.
|
RE: Zebra-Twist String??????????????
I am in touch with Wayne Newberry of Berry Strings, I am considering a string from him, which is about half the money of a Winners Choice, he uses a BCY 452X and Ultracam materials, and has a special BCY #2D for the serving where the roller guard is, for my LX it would be $48 delievered to my house!
