strap-on style tree stands
I want to know what strap-on, hanging stand is truely the best.
I also would like to say this form is awsome. I have been thinking of getting a new bow and could not deside betwen a Hoyt or a Matthews, it is clear that the Matthews are the top choice. |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I prefer the Gorilla hang on stands. They are absoultely solid when put up right and they are quiet. I had no noise problems with mine last season even in sub zero temps. A great product and a great value.

RE: strap-on style tree stands
If you casn afford itget a lone wolf. They weigh next to nothing even with a set of there climbing sticks. easiest stand I' ve ever put up can be done right or left handed, ROCK SOLID and absolutly niose free in any temp.

RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have two API AL100m hang on' s and love them. Very light and easy to hang when using the T screw. Ultra comfortable, quiet and solid. I just bought two Rivers Edge hang on' s and will test them this year. I hear good things about Rivers Edge products and they are affordable as well. :)

RE: strap-on style tree stands
I use this one. http://www.summitstands.com/productD...aspx?id=329223
It is by far the lightest, most comfortable, easiest to hang and the most ROCK SOLID stand I have ever used, and I have used a lot over the years. Try it. I' m sure you won' t be dissapointed. |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have three Gorillas, one summit and I like them all for different reasons. If you buy a gorilla, get the all aluminum it seems quieter and is very light weight. I would however take a good look at Lone Wolf. It seems their design is excellent.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have 2 Gorillas and an API - I like the Gorilla best - GREAT stands
Hunter - I just bought a new bow myself... I shot the Hoyt, Mathews... and ALMOST got the Mathews LX... then I shot the AR 34.... try it..... I bought it - I truely liked it better and the handle design is a true 10+ - a great bot. I can shoot bare shafts to 30 yards about 2 inches from fletched shafts... which is impressive for ANY setup Tom |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
Another vote here for the Gorilla line.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
ightwgt, I' ve never heard of the AR34, who makes them?
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
OK I am dumb the AR34 is in about evry mag. I have. Thay look awsome, what is the price on one?
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
The seat on the lone wolfs aren' t to bad with the provided foam pad. I didn' t like the velcro atachments for the seat but a few cable ties and problem solved. The gorilla stands are very nice also my buddy has one but he like my lone wolf better.

RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have 2 River' s Edge strap on stands.I' ve used them for 2 years now and love them.I' ve put them on every type of tree. They lock down tight with no movement or noise.I paid 60 dollars each. They have been worth the money because I' ve had no problems with them.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I would get a lone wolf if you can afford it and you want a stand to take to and from the stand every occasion. They are nice, but to expensive to leave out in the woods for some thief to steal.

RE: strap-on style tree stands
I use the Screaming Eagle brand of hang-on stands, which use chains instead of strapping material. Chains don' t wear out!!!;)
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I love the Lone Wolf. I have the alpha hang-on with 3 climbing sticks and I can get 15 - 18 feet if I space ' em out right. I also have the Lone Wolf Alpha climber that I got this year and I absolutely love it and use it almost exclusively (probably ' cause it' s still new!) But I used the hang-on for 5 years and filled many a deer tag while in it. It' s great for trees with branches or bent trees, pine trees, etc, locks on rock-solid, and is easy and quiet to set up. The guys at Lone Wolf are great to deal with (met them at Northeastern Sportsman show) and would help you out any time.

RE: strap-on style tree stands
The Bear River Pro Hunter is the best stand I have ever tried, It has a 22" x36" Platform that adjusts to the angle of the tree. The problem is I bought one from Cabelas bargain cave 6 months ago and don' t know where else to find it. I want to buy a couple more!
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
Gorilla .Quiet. Priced good! I have a steel one its great. A little heavy I might get a aluminum one next year
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I would have to agree with all the lonewolf fans. Extremely light, quiet, and the foam seat is quite comfortable.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I got 2 gorillas and a couple or loc-ons.I like the gorillas better cause their lighter and faster to hang than the loc-ons and cheaper.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
Another vote for Lone Wolf. I have a climber and a hang-on with climbing sticks. They are both very comfortable, although not like a Summit where you could probably sleep in it. It' s probably not a good idea to be napping in your tree anyway.....you never know what you' ll miss!!!!
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
My vote goes to the Gorilla. I used to have 3 of the aluminum ones until some a-hole thought they were nice too and stole them on me. I recently purchased the steel one (cheaper) and am happy with that as well.
The only problem with having nice stands is that other people know they are good and expensive and they become a target for thieves. That being said, you can't go wrong with the Gorilla. I really like them, nice and easy and quiet. |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I can have my Lone Wolf stand set in less than a minute. With the new V hook system they have, you just put a strap around the tree that has a "V" hook, you then just hook the stand on and it's set. I love this stand, it more sturdy than my API and Ol' Man climbers.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have API, Rivers Edge and Gorillas. All great stands but my next one will be a River's Edge.
If you leave it in the same tree all season, get yourself some ratchet straps - you are as solid as the tree with these baby's. |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have an Amacker and 2 Loc ons..the Spirit and the Lem. Both are solid, tough stands. The Spirit is nearly 20 years old! They are not the easiet to fasten and not the most comfortable though.
If I could afford it right now Lone Wolf would be my choice in a new strap on. |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
For hang-on stands I use the Gorilla King Kong and the Gorilla Silvaback Magnums (same size as the King Kong, but almost 9 #'s lighter). Also the Rivers Edge a strong stand, but heavy. The Summit Copperhead XL very fast to set up and now even faster, the Summit Headhunter Lite (the last two stands mentioned here have smaller platforms compared to the Gorilla) depends on how comfortable you'll feel on a smaller platform stand, if you're going higher up the tree. Even though I use all of these stands, my choice would go to the 'Gorilla Silvaback Magnum' (with the footrest), it is a comfortable stand.

RE: strap-on style tree stands
I really like Chippewa Wedgelok hang on stands. Unbelievable simple and quick to put up. ROCK SOLID whan you're in them!
Chack them out! www.chippewawedgeloc.com |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have 3 North Star hang-ons and I love them. Very comfortable seat and easy to hang on. I also have 5 Hunter's View bobcat's and for the money they are an excellent stand. They are chain ons which weather can't hurt like strap-on stands.
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
I have 2 Bear River stands. I think they are Grizzly's, not sure though. They are steel (heavy) but do not have cables. If you want to leave your stand in the woods all season, this is the one.
Just picked up 2 Rivers Edge Bandits @ Gander Mountain for $42. Can't wait to try them out. Much better seat than the Bear Rivers. |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
i have the lone wolf system...nothing but praise
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
i just bought a remington 300 mag treestand from The Sportsmans Guide it is pretty light and big (24 x 34 1/2) it comes with backpack straps and safety harness and removable seat that folds up quietly and makes no noise what so ever
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
lone wolf hands down its easy to put up and stong and noise free... no question about it they are worth every penny i spent on them i own 2 of them and im getting 2 more this spring at the wi deer and turkey expo
|
RE: strap-on style tree stands
the lone wolf tree stand is in my veiw the best on the market that i hunted out of for the past 23 yrs ... they are easy to put up and easy to move ,, they are safe and quiet ,, for my money they are worth every penny i spent on them, i own two and next year im buying 2 more ps when i look at hunting gear its like this u get what u pay for like buyng a 700$ rifle, u dont put on a 100 $ scope ,,ect u get what u pay for and i feel the lone wolf stands are worth there weight in gold PS and i dont work for the company lol::::::::::::::

RE: strap-on style tree stands
Depends on what you want it for. I have about 12 "permanent portables". these are just cheap, fairly large, good solid stands. We leave them up all year and occasioally move them. they are fairly heavy. These are all Rivers Edge Bigfoots. Comfortable and rock solid!
If you're looking for a good strap on syle stand that you'll bring other places and put up and down alot I'd spend alittle more money and buy a Chippewa Wedgeloc. Super, super quick to put up and rock solid! A very high quality stand very quick level set-up.(adapts quickly to many tree angle and situations) Check them out www.chippewawedgeloc.com Good HUnting! |
RE: strap-on style tree stands
i went to type in northstartreestands.com and for some reason ohio valley outdoors magazine popped up with a testing article on stands---you might want to check it out
