Default New Bow for 11 year old Boy

So, we're getting a new bow for my son for Christmas. He has been hunting a Barnett Vortex at 42lbs. Over the last few months, he cranked my Mathews down to 55lbs and shoots that pretty well.

He's 5'4 and 140lbs and can easily pull back 50-55lbs. Not sure about draw length, I'll measure his current bow before shopping.

What's a good bow that he can grow into for the $300 neighborhood? And used is an option.

Thanks.

There are lots of bows for youths and women out there. Matthews, Martin, Alpine, just to name a few. At 5'4" I'm pretty sure his draw length would be such that he doesn't need a youth bow.
With that being the case, instead of a bow, I would give him a card with an IOU for a bow in it. That way he can pick out one that fits him. And if he picks it out he will probably be more comfortable and confident with it.

i bought my 7 and 9 year old daughters the Mission Menace... very nice bow.. adjusts a ton from like 17"-29" and 15lb -50lb or something... they will be able to grow with the bow... lots of kids in our youth archery program shoot this bow.

I agree with bronko. He is at the stage where you really won't get the abvantages of a youth bow that has a lot of adjustments. He will already be at the high end of the adjustment range. You will probably be looking at a 60 lb bow at this point. A gift certificate is your best bet so he can be properly fitted for the right bow. It would also give him a chance to shoot a few to find the one that feels good to him. Should be able to find one in your price range. Might not be a package deal. Those usually start around $400.00 for an adult package. You might find a 2013 package on clearance right after Christmas. Good luck. HD.

The Mission Craze will adjust from youth to adult sizes and is a decent adult bow that adjusts up to 70# and 30" draw length.

The Diamond Infinite Edge is a nice youth bow with very good specs and plenty of adjustments that allows the shooter to grow with the bow.
