Default broadheads

I was looking to get some new broadheads this year. I shoot a hoyt katera pullling 65lbs around 350 arrowset-up. I havent really seen the fps my bow is shooting but I believe its around 280-290 maybe. Im fairly new to bow hunting so opinions are very appreciated.

I like fixed heads. With my luck i don't need something else that can go wrong so i do not use mechanicals.

My flavor of choice has been G5 Strikers over the past few years. I got a pack of Arrowdynamic solutions Atom heads to try this fall. They are a funky looking thing. Many people badmouth them without even reading the science behind them.......

You will get as many opinions as you will posts though.

good luck!

Shinob

Shoot fixed heads. Look at the Slick Trick sstandard heads - great fixed blade heads and are built all steel - I personally use a 2 blade head, that is a large fixed head but if I used anything else it would be the Slick tricks.

I have had great luck with NAP Nightmares. They fly like a dream, are as tough as nails, and leave a great blood trail. What more could one ask for?

I like Grim Reaper 100gr Razortips. Use them for everything, turkeys, bear, deer, and hog.

If i were going to go mechanical, which will probably be never...........

there's just something about the Grim Reapers. They just look like flying death!!! Who knows, if the Atoms are a bust i may look them up.

They are! I know many don't have faith in mechs, but I have total faith in Grim Reapers. I've only been bowhunting for two years so far - nine shots and nine dead deer close to my tree. Sorry to everyone who hates mechs, but if you get your hands on one and check it out, there's not much way for this broadhead to actually fail you when assembled properly. Don't expect a huge entry wound, but the exit wound is astounding.

do the exit wounds compare to this entrance wound with a G5 striker?

That's not really fair. I took a shot at a bad angle, almost straight down. I blocked out the exit wound. It had things hangin out. Dont wana gross anyone out.

Nice! I'll bet that deer didn't get very far. I think that's what a lot of people don't take into consideration when they see a huge gaping exit wound - the exit angle. Any broadhead that exits at a steep angle will cut ahugehole on the way out. To answer your question - yes, they will. A 1 3/8 diameter 3 blade will simply make a bigger hole on the way out. I've been tempted to upgrade to the 1 3/4" diameter Grim Reapers. I'm pushing enough KE to use them on deer. As I said before, though, the entry would with the Reaper will be smaller since (in my experience) the blades don't fully deploy until they're past the hide. Your Strikers will consistenlymake a bigger entry wound. It's all give and take. I just know that they are exactly what you said they look like: "Flying Death". Then again, so is any other decent, sharp, well-placed broadhead.[8D]
