Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I am torn between the Lone Wolf Sit and Climb and The Summit Viper SS. Will be used only for Bowhunting.
I like the light weight of the Lone Wolf and a few other features but I have not had the chance to sitin one. The Summit I have sat in and it was very comfortable. And I had plenty of room to move around in. My Biggest Question .. Is the Lone Wolf Sit and Climb as comfortable to sit in as the Summit. |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Zarn,
No it isn't, unless you weigh 200lbs or less. I have owned both stands and I think there are advantages to both. As far as packing in and out, you can't beat the LW. But for comfort, the Summit is best. The LW is quieter IMO and climbs easier, probably because it is lighter. But for all day comfort, you can't beat the summit. I also think the summit is more solid in the tree. Just my opinion though. Hope this helps. Blessings.....Pastorjim |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Haven't used a Lone wolf but heard they are pricey in comparison to other manufacturer's models. I was going to buy the Summit Viper as well but the guy I was talking to about it said I should go with a Goliath. I am 5' 10" 193 lbs. I have no regrets about taking his advice. The extra room is nice especially after you are in it for a couple hours. Now they have the Titan as well, haven't used one yet but want to check em out. I suggest getting the Goliath instead of the Viper if you are going to purchase a Summit.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Actually, after further thought on the matter of climbing stands. If I could design the perfect climber, this is what it would consist of. First and foremost, it would have to fold flat for backpacking. Secondly, I would prefer it weighed no more than 18lbs. It would have no loose parts or pins to fumble around with in the dark, assemble and climb quietly, and last of all, have some way to start your stand level and continue to level as you ascend the tree. The closest I ever came to that was the North Starr Treecat climber. But it was awkward to climb with and the leveling system they used, a bungee system, didn't really work that well. I sold it on ebay after one use. I think North Starr is no longer in business. If anyone has a suggestion with the above mentioned specs. let me know. I would probably buy one. I applogize if I am hijacking the thread,I was just sort of thinking out loud.

I think you should really take a good look at the treewalker climbers. Dan (meanV) suggested them to me when i was looking for a climber. Now i dont actually own one yet and i havent use one but they look awsome and i cant wait to get one.http://www.treewalkertreestands.com/

No it is not. If comfort is your primary concern go with the Summit.

I also came across this Climber the M-1 Millennium. It packs well only issue I could see was the weight.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Looks like a folding chair from a banquet hall. Seems to be awkward by design and not as sturdy as the first 2 stands you originally asked about. Just by looking at it I know that thing will not be as comfortable as any of the Summit stands. I have used alot of different stands and by far I like the summits the best, for comfort, climbing, safety, quietnessand ease of carrying.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Summit all the way,I have a lone wolf sitnclimb.I used it once very uncomftorable and not as solid as a summit.Plus you can use the bar on the viper for your gun or bow.I have had the viper since they switch from steel to aluminum.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I own the summit backpacker. I love it because it folds flat and I can sit all day in it comfortably. I have never tried a lone wolf so I can't compare the two.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I love both of My Ol'Mans. I have the MultiVision and the Older Steel one. The vision is nice as it is like 3 stands in one. You can use it as a open front or gun rest or foot rest. It is aluminum and only weighs 17-18 pounds and paks flat and goes up quiet. My cousin has the lone wolf which he paid 100 bucks more for than mine and is not near as versatile and not as comfy.
The olman is much like the treewalker you can face the tree or standard. You can even slide the seat out and lean back like the tree walker picture with the guy snoozing. I have had each for many years with no failures or issues. |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Your Summit climbers are the ONLY tree climber made here in the USA. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING else is made off shore. Look and compair the quaility and workmanship of a Summit to anything else out there and you'll see for yourself what I'm talking about and Summit has a great customer service.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
As a person who owns both a Summit and Lone Wolf I can say this.
The Summit is an excellent stand. I have a Cobra X4 (has open front) and have not had a single issue with the stand in terms of operation and comfort. I recently picked up a Lone Wolf Sit and Climb and have used it for almost one full season. Here are my thoughts. Comfort: Summit, as mentioned wins this one. They are very comfy to sit in, especially for long or all day sits. However, I did not have a problem pulling off all day sits in the Lone Wolf either. The new seat really improved this stand. But the Summit was still more comfy. Climbing: I think both climb very well. I can't really say if one is better than the other in that regard. They're just a little different in terms of "feel". Packing/carrying: This is where the Lone Wolf shines. There is no comparison. It packs down to 3" thick and you can jog through the woods with it on your back. Now, my Summit and LW are only a few pounds different, but the weight distribution, because it is closer to your body and you don't have anything hanging out away from you, it feels much lighter. Noise: Lone Wolf wins here too. Absolutely silent to setup and climb with. The Summit, if you take your time, can be climbed with pretty quietly, but you really need to pay attention with them. Plus, you have the solid cast platform. It doesn't make squeeks if your boots are wet, doesn't creak and is very stable. All in all, I don't think there is a better climber on the market than a Lone Wolf. I haven't touched my Summit since getting one. If you have issues with the seat not being comfortable enough for you, you can always pick up a Summit seat, which will fit right on there and have the best of both worlds. |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I own a Lone Wolf and3 other climbers including Summit, andAPI.I have a Summit Goliath that I bought instead of the Viper,as the couple extra inches in increased size make it even more comfortable IMO.
I will agree with some of the other posts that the Lone Wolf is quieter and packs much much better. I dont know if there is any advantage on stability. The Summit is rock solid when locked on the tree. However when it comes to comfort they are worlds apart IMO. I have sat in my Summit on all day sits for about 12 hours in complete comfort. I have attempted long sits in the LW, and it is not a fun experience. I find myself constantly wanting to move around toget comfortable, and having to stand much much more. To me I would rather deal the extra work packing in the heavier less pack friendlySummit then to deal with being uncomfortable on an all day sit especially if I will be hunting the same tree for multiple days. Pack in once and enjoy multiple days of comfort is an easy decision to me. Summit. |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
Go with the Summt Viper ss, I have a Summit Gaolithe and it is simple outstanding, i wanted to the viper ss but they were sold out and the gaolithe was on sale. I haev a had mine for 3 years now, and it is still lighter then many other tree stands i have seen. i have never had a single problem with it, never confusing, and most importantlyitwill give you a sense of saftey 100% of the time while 30 feet int he air...Gaurantee!!!

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?

Zarn,
I have owned both and now will only use a Equalizer as a climber. I have two Goliaths set up on trees that don't change diameter very much and that is all I am comfortable with using them for. I have been bowhunting for over 40 years now and started with bakers, ammackers, etc. This is the best climnber I have ever used. DetLieut |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I own both as well and use the Lone Wolf with some modifications...
Follow this link for an indepth review on the stand. http://forums.bowhunting.com/yaf_postst252_Lone-Wolf-Sit-and-Climb-review.aspx |
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I currently have an api that weighs 27lbs. I am considering the lone wolf and a summit razor ss. The sumitt has a climbing bar that moves out of the wayand it weighs in at 21 lbs. Only 2 lbs heavier than the lone wolfe for a lot cheaper. If I buy one It will be the summit.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I do not have either of the stands, I use LW sticks and a Tree Saddle, but....... If you guys that buy a new bow every other year are complaining about spending an extra $100 to get something you MAY not like as well??? That's just dumb IMHO. Being able to get into the woods, up the tree, and ready silently SHOULD be at a higher priority! LIke I said, I have not used either, but I think I would get the one that packs better and is quieter over more comfy. That's just me though, I only do all day sits a few times a year. Good Luck!

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I like Summit tree stands. I have hunted out of a Summit Viper SS and its very comfortable. Right now, I own a Summit Open Shot. If I ever decide to buy a new one, I will stick to Summit.
|
RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
I used the LW sit and climb most of this past season. Not only is it quiet going up the tree, it will not make any noise when you move around. Also, and this is a big plus for me, is that it packs and sets up very quiet. I have a more comfortabe stand but I have no problem staying up in my LW for long hours at a time. For me, being quiet is first on my list.

RE: Debating Which stand Summit or Lone Wolf ?
i bought a summit razor ss before last season and absoulutly love it... used my bro inlaws older steel viper and it is very comfy as well as my razor. have not used a lone wolf so i cant say anything good or bad about them, but i love my summit.

I am still using my 2006 summit and its still as good as the day I bought it other than the paint peeling off , but thats a simple fix with some flat paint . Very comfortable , Trust me I have put many hrs of sleep in it from 4:30 am until legal shooting time . it packs up pretty quite but its big because it doesnt pack flat . less than 16# and super stable in the tree , Some of the newer lone wolfs were made over seas, cheap hardware etc , my understanding is there made back in the US now and are better quality . Summit for me though its been one hell of a climber
|
I have to agree with 4evrhtn about the Goliath, especially if you are on the bigger side (as I am). Very comfortable and solid. On the other hand, I can't compare it to a Lone Wolf, as I've never used one.

Lone Wolf
personally, go with the summit. Bought a lone wolf sit and climb on Friday and after trying it out, took it back on Sunday. I don't understand all the hype of the LW. What a POS!
Uncomfortable, difficult to climb in, not secure in the tree very wobbly, the most dangerous stand I have ever been in. I don't get all this hype at all. What a piece of junk! |

What a piece of junk! some put summit seat on LW .i heard lw cables catch on rough bark while climbing. my friend said his was wobbly on the edge . they are best at packing in from what i heard. but for price under 300tyd i can get best summit stand.lw are very expensive. |
I have the summit viper and love it. One thing I did to it is, I added camo neoprene tape to every surface that could possibly get make noise from branches. I used an aftermarket tape and it still is like new after 3 years. I like the comfort of the summit stand but have no experience with the Lone Wolf stands. You might want to check out the equalizer stands http://www.buckshot-stands.com/ . I have never used one and don't know anyone who has, but they do look interesting.

Well if it becomes impossible to decide
you can always flip three, one hundred dollar bills, to decide. Besides, you'll be parting with them soon.
Kidding, but not really. |
i have never been in a lw but have tried summits bigger stand. i have been using api grand slam magnum for at least 20 years and replace heat swrink yearly. i hunt everyday in a 8 week season. more room more stable and climbs a much bigger tree than a summit. the swrink wrap has changed and last a lot longer now. i am 6'3 285 and can dance in the api.i think it weighs 23 lbs
|
I use the Millenium chain on stand that you attach the bracket to the tree and slide the stand in the bracket, it is rock solid and one of the most comfortable and lightest stand I have ever used, but not a climber. I didn't know they made a climber like this, I will definately check it out, they are well made products and quiet.
