The General or the 82nd Airborne?
I am looking to purchase a new BowTech. I will mainly be using itfor hunting, not competition shoots. This will be my third bow so I am ready to spend the money for a good one. I am looking at The General and the 82nd Airborne. Please give me some input to help me decide which one to purchase.
Thanks! |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
You will love either one I bet - but you have to try and shoot both. The General is the flagship with the technology to boot. Very quite and smooth bow to shoot. The 82nd is more of a speed bow but still with the string suppressor is quiet also and very nice to shoot.
I had the same issues last year I ended up with a Guardian and an Allegiance. Pricey for me, but, I love both bows equally for different reasons. |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
The general is a smoother more forgiving bow and the 82nd is all about speed but is still quit smooth and forgiving. Like mentioned before you need to shoot both and see which one fits you best. Good luck, Im sure you will be pleased with either one.

RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
Just purchased the general (bow Tech) today, have not shot it yet. cost me an arm and a leg by the time i got it all setup. will start shooting it tomorrow and get back with you with the results. i did shoot one at the store and it was really quiet and no forward motion upon the release.

Not tryin to steal or jump in on anybodies thread----since you have pointed out comparisons of the general/airborne what about the allegiance..
Once again--im really not trying tobutt in here its just that these guys seem to have some good info on bowtechs and was wondering thier thoughts on other bowtechs Thanks |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
I had the same problem i went and shot every bow this year i could get my hands on hoyt, mathews parker ross then the general and the 101, 1500 shots later i am glad i got the 101 its an awsome bow, i shoot a 5575 gt with 100grn rage on 66 lbs 306 not many bows will do that ive tested many, so good luck

RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
IMO a 28.5" draw or less can not go wrong with the 82nd. While I like the way the General shoots I prefer a little longer A to A and even though I consider myself an average shot the 82nd has shot extremely well for me.
It is fast becoming one of my ATF bows. This season will be the final test. Here are 2 arrows at 40 yards. Dan ![]() |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
Next 2 shots were both from 60 yards. I put the orange dot on the bag target so I actually could see what I was aiming at. On the Deer target I just aimed for a kill. I believe it would have Got-R-Done.
If you have a shorter draw don't let the short BH scare you from trying this bow. It definitely is a shooter!! Dan ![]() |

Here's a pic of the 60 yard arrow in the Deer target.

RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
Shoot both. i own a general and couldnt be happier with it. i have shot quite a few 3d's with it and it is a great bow imo and am readyto hunt this season with it. i have owned it since march and shoot aabout 6days a week adn i love it. i am getting an 82nd or 101stafterseason is out for a target only bow.i honestly dont think i could sell the general.
btw, i have never shot one, but take a look at the allegience, tons of people love them for hunting. either way, i dont think you could go wrong with any that have been mentioned. good luck Derek |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
I have the 2007 Allegiance (2008 has slight modifications, nothing substantial). Great bow, throws darts. Only flaw is that the weight they took out in the riser seems to increase the hand shock and noise. The newere bows with the suppressor are a lot more quiet, but, I still love my Allegiance and would recommend one (just not overall the 82nd, 101st).

RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
There 'is' a gap between the General and 82nd.
Other than their respective bow specs...the draw cycle on the 82nd does not have that 'bump' just before the wall. The 82nd does however have a slight resistance at the beginning of the draw cycle. Keeping 'in mind' the General limbs produced prior to July 17th, 2008does have some integrity issues, you will be at immediate advantage opting for the 82nd. My opinion. The 82nd however is a bow that will not allow you to 'flinch' without paying the price on the target! the General is much more forgiving. HOWEVER, if your form is consistant, your hold is steady, your triggering is smooth, your follow-thru spot on... then the 82nd should be your bow of choice. The SPEED on the 82nd is very impressive, fulfilling and leaves no room for anything else. The trajectory of your arrows will be much morelinear exiting the 82nd and the kenetic is overwhelming. This bow (82nd) IS a nail driver...if you are able to perfect the 82nd, you'll have this bow in your arsenal for a long time to come. You'll honestly love this bow. In my mind, the General is a bow for someone who is NOT as ADVERTUROUS, or maybe, up to the challenge, i.e. practise, practise and more practise. |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
Wow, what a wild question! Just because the specs between the two that you mentioned are so completely different. I guess if you want a good tree stand bow to hunt with in timber than the General would get my vote. However, I do like the previously mentioned suggestion for the Allegiance.

RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
WOW, thanks for all of the replies! I took the advise and shot both bows, I found that both were similar in quietness and comfort, among other things. However I could not get over how fast the 82nd was. I liked the General because it is a perfect treestand bow, but it is not as impressive as the 82nd. So after a long drawn out process I purchased the 82nd Airborne. The only thing that I didn't like about the 82nd was that it is about 5" longer than the General, but that was not enough to stop me from chosing it. By the way, straight off the shelf and with smooth mods., the 82nd hit 302 fps on the chrono. @ 65 lbs. After some adjustments I think I can get itin the320's.
The dealer that I talked to said that he has only sold about 11 Generals and of those 11, 4 of the owners were not happy with it, saying that it was just too slow. He has sold about 80 of the 82nd Airborne, with no complaints. Thanks again! |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
wow, my dealer cant keep the generals on the shelf. i dont care what anybody says though, im getting an 82nd for target but i love the general. another bow that i shot that i really liked was the dxt. for hunting it would be awesome.
anyways, good luck Derek |
RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
got a 82 3 weeks ago! took a bit getting use to but shooting flat and accurate out to 40 meters. really like the bow but then also like speed from a bow. if u can put up with the hard draw its a pleasure to shoot. love the general but bit on the heavy side!

RE: The General or the 82nd Airborne?
