RE: Those crazy Turbo nocks?!?!?!

I' m kind of surprised at nick' s response. I would have thought that others would have made the same suggestion.

As far as:

And if I was having this problem with his nocks, I would have a problem with any kind of fletching put on an arrow. Must not know you can turn a nock to align the fletching to clear a cable.
I would really beg to differ. Even my bitz will fletch the vanes on an X right off the jig. And since the turbo' s are really only designed for a drop away style rest, you could also three fletch an arrow and have the cock fletch pointing out for additional clearance. So that arguement does not hold water at all.

RE: Those crazy Turbo nocks?!?!?!

Well the snow is gone in my backyard and I finally got out there to test out my
Turbo-Nocks. I just put on my new Whisker Biscuit (Drop Tine, Quick-Shot) and
did a quick bare shaft tune up. All looked good. Did several rounds at 20 yds to
line up my sights. From the very start I was getting some good groups, roughly
3" at 20 yds. Not bad for the first real shooting session of the year. Once my sight was locked in at 20 yds I moved back to 30. Still, very decent groups, about 3" .
Moved out to 40 yds. and a little to my surprise, the groups stayed very tight. I
also noticed the space between my 20, 30, and 40 yd. pins did not have to change
at all. It was the same space my feathered arrows used. I guess this tells me the
weight of the Turbo-Nocks is NOT AN ISSUE. I shoot a Mathews MQ-32 at 70lbs.
My arrows are 28" Beaman Camo Hunter 400' s. While shooting, I was getting tight
enough groups to break one fin off two of the Turbo' s. I kept on shooting the
broken ones and noticed no difference at all. They flew as true as the new non-broken ones. Unlike BearGuy, I had plenty of clearance from my cable, about 1/2
an inch. To sum it all up, I would give the maiden voyage of my Turbo' s, a definate
thumbs up!

RE: Those crazy Turbo nocks?!?!?!

A big THANKS to everyone who has taken the time to respond.
I have bought some and tested them on my own.
Here are the results:
On un-fletched CX selects, shot really tight groups, broke two nocks. Distance 20 yds
On 3-degree right fletched CX selects with 3 vanes, also shot really tight groups. Distance 20 yds.
Took a nock with broken fins, broke the remaining fins off and shot both arrows, vaned and bare shafts. Amazingly...both shot well. I think this really speaks to the concept of spin stabilization. Bullets for example do not have vanes.
I would like to see the nock manufactured w/o the fins for IBO 3-D competition, because this product with the fins is not legal for that using only those nocks.

You can' t turn the turbo nock the same way? I thought they spun if not glued...am I drunk??

RE: Those crazy Turbo nocks?!?!?!

trushot,

Yes, you can turn the nock, however the fins are permanently attached to the nock. The fins and nock are all one. When sitting on the string, the fins are horizontal and vertical. So, turning the nock will not effect the position of the fins.

Gotcha! I noticed that Iwas, indeed, drunk when I went to the site and looked at them again! Seems like that' s a good idea to offset them....you mentioned it to Nick??

I have been hearing about these off and on for some time now but up until this post I never really thought of giving them a second glance. I think I might have to order a set just for the heck of it. If they work then great...if they do not then that is just one more archery gadget in my " junk box" . :)

I hear ya Frank...I never gave them a thought till I saw them at the show. Nick seemed like a decent guy...mentioned the downside as well as the up which goes a long way in my book. If you get them and are going to do a review let me know if not I' ll make my debut review with them.

RE: Those crazy Turbo nocks?!?!?!

From my experience with them, I would say that you can expect to do quite a bit of tuning to get them to fly straight. I had to adjust the tiller somewhat to get them to come off of the bow straight (thanks for the help Arthur P.). Getting proper clearence was another issue for me. I use a GKF drop away and was getting a clearence proplem on the rest. Not on the prongs, but the base. Like I said before, it would have been a lot easier, if the fins were at an X on the strings. Remember that the fins do not forgive at all, and any clearence problems will give you problems. I got it set up correctly over the weekend, but didn' t have time to do a lot of practice with them since I spent most of the time on setting up the bow to accept the turbo' s.
