RE: g5 optix sight

G5 is not your average sight. There's nothing cheap about it. It's construction is top notch. To adjust elevation and windage provided is a 5/32 allen wrench used to loosen (1) bolt and you just move slide. The added light makes it that much better for early morning or evening hunts.
You asked about the floating pin. Based on your FPS you willadhere a yardage stickerthat is dialed in 50 to 90 yards (101 yds if your FPS is 320) for you. This is why it's called smart pin. Just turn your dial all the way up and set your stiker in place. Here's pictures of my G5. I found it hard to get close ups of the G5 on the web when I was searching myself. Hope this helps.

Whats the theory behind the smart pin? Is it like a pendulum, meaning its good from 50 to 90 yards?

loogout1,

The pin acts like the adjustable pin that is used by target shooters. The difference being that the range starts at 50 yds and then up.

You sight the pin in at 50 yds. Then, using the dial adjust the pin to the next point where it clicks into place. For me, 3 clicks gets me to 60. After a while you get the hang of how many clicks is what distance. You can also use the sticker. However, I've found it easier to learn what the distances are through practice. You can set the pin anywhere in it's travel range without using the "lock-in" locations. In that regard it is a little like a pendulum in that it has a wide range of use.

Oh, I get it Dave. Thats pretty cool. I wont be shooting past 40 anytime soon so its a non-issue, but a cool feature none the less. Thanks for the info.
