Hi,

I'm aiming with a G5 optix ME with 0.19 pins. So far I haven't got a need for the smart pin, which is a pin you can dial in to the yardage you prefer. I only shoot 10, 20 and 30 yards. But it's a great sight, bright enough pins, light weight but strong enough and easy adjustable.....

I just picked up the G5 SE 3 pin w/ the .29 fibers and the LED light. I love it. Probably my favorite sight yet. Very easy to tune.

The sight is top notch. Get the .19 version.

However, if you are ham fisted like me the one thing you will wnat to do is go to your local hardwear store and buy 3 of the smallest lock washers they sell and put them under the lock down screws for the top 3 pins. I broke off one of the tiny screws and I've found that this will fix the problem for about $.40.

G5 is not your average sight. There's nothing cheap about it. It's construction is top notch. To adjust elevation and windage provided is a 5/32 allen wrench used to loosen (1) bolt and you just move slide. The added light makes it that much better for early morning or evening hunts.
You asked about the floating pin. Based on your FPS you willadhere a yardage stickerthat is dialed in 50 to 90 yards (101 yds if your FPS is 320) for you. This is why it's called smart pin. Just turn your dial all the way up and set your stiker in place. Here's pictures of my G5. I found it hard to get close ups of the G5 on the web when I was searching myself. Hope this helps.

Whats the theory behind the smart pin? Is it like a pendulum, meaning its good from 50 to 90 yards?

RE: g5 optix sight

loogout1,

The pin acts like the adjustable pin that is used by target shooters. The difference being that the range starts at 50 yds and then up.

You sight the pin in at 50 yds. Then, using the dial adjust the pin to the next point where it clicks into place. For me, 3 clicks gets me to 60. After a while you get the hang of how many clicks is what distance. You can also use the sticker. However, I've found it easier to learn what the distances are through practice. You can set the pin anywhere in it's travel range without using the "lock-in" locations. In that regard it is a little like a pendulum in that it has a wide range of use.

Oh, I get it Dave. Thats pretty cool. I wont be shooting past 40 anytime soon so its a non-issue, but a cool feature none the less. Thanks for the info.
