RE: Rage: Best Bad Hit Broadhead?
From what I have seen so far, the Rage may not be as critical tolower levels of KE than most other expandables. A number of the Outdoor Channel female celebs shoot these heads - I'm sure they are shooting bows under 50 lbs of KE - and sometimes taking game bigger than deer with them. OK - they aren't getting a pass through, but sufficient penetration and good blood flow out the entry hole. I'm only shooting 61 lbs. (trying to avoid rotator cuff surgery), and wouldn't hesitate to stick an elk with one of these. Might not get a pass through, but I'll bet a good shot would put 'em on the ground real quick.

RE: Rage: Best Bad Hit Broadhead?
Bottom line, A well hit deer is a well hit deer whether it be Dbl. lung (preferred target) or Femoral artery (luck shot) A poorly hit deer is still a poorly hit deer and will take a smart tracking to recover if recovery is possible. I like to blow as big a hole as possible that's the reason I shoot a 4 blade head. I rarely use expandables been there done that and they can malfuntion. One time is too many, and I still fail to see the advantage of a mechanical other than some can't tune for broadheads. I know archers on here are not having that problem!:D

RE: Rage: Best Bad Hit Broadhead?
My bows are tuned and shoot all sorts of fixed and mechanical heads to the same spot as field points, so no concern about the tuning issue. But I would say that the "advantage" of the Rage mechanical is the extremely wide cut you get and the associated blood loss. These heads seem to put animals on the ground in about half the average time/distance as the regular fixed heads. I guess you weigh that out against the "more things to go wrong" philosophy and make your decision.

A 2 blade Rage cuts 2" A 4 blade 1 1/8" head cuts 2 1/4" You figure it out;)

RE: Rage: Best Bad Hit Broadhead?
A 2 blade Rage will cut 2+" because when the blades slide back they open almost to 3" before sliding all the way back which MAKES a 2+" hole. A 1 1/8" 4 blade will cut 2 1/4" but still will make a 1 1/8" hole.

RE: Rage: Best Bad Hit Broadhead?
I am never one to debate on these forums... Not like me... AndI have not used the Rage products, so I have no 1st hand experience with them, but I will argue that that the Crimson Talon broadheads are extremely effective on the occassional innevitable bad hit. A couple buddies of mine have made extremely bad hits (gut) and found the deer w/in 100 yards. These broadheads absolutely devastate anything in their way. Only problem is they cannot usually be reused.
Just had to give my opinion. I do have a good friend who has shot 7 this season w/ the Rage 2 blade. One was a bad hit. He found the deer 2 days later. He swears by them. |
