Confidence not high

Deepdiver,Have you looked at ladder stands? The 2 man stands are rated for 500 pounds, are a heck of a lot easier to get into and out of,and the better ones really give you a confident feeling of security. As far as safety harnesses,The hunters safety system is THE BEST on market! The first time you try to put on safety harness in dark you will realize how much easier they are to put on. Do yourself a favor and try a ladder stand 1 time and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I do like the 2 man ladder stands, and I intend to get one someday(when my kids are old enough to go out hunting with me, probably). But for now, I am kind of restricted by where I hunt. The persons land that I hunt doesn't want the big ladder stands, so I have to respect his wishes. If I can find a new place in the future, then I will certainly put one up.

nodog,
Heights are not a problem for me, and other than being overweight, I am physically in very good shape. I spend 30 minutes per day on a stairmaster, I lift weights, and I am used to climbing trees and moving through the woods at night(coon hunting). Last year I hunted from an elevated platform that was pretty scary to get into. I appreciate the concern, and I understand where you are coming from. With myself, clothing, and gear, I still will fall below the weight recommendation for the stand.

I have had some metal from there that was defective. Black iron pipe fittingsfor gas that had holes in them.

I don't understand why the landowner don't want you putting up temp ladder stands-they are completely portable, don't hurt the tree, and takes only a few minutes to put up or take down. Perhaps he's thinking of permanent stands that you build in tree or something?

I have never hunted before, but I have a trip planned with some buds from work.
I just picked up a millennium hang onfrom Cabelas and I tried it out in the back yard. It is light, silent, easy to hang, and SUPREMELY COMFORTABLE. I imiagine I could easily sit it in for 4 hours.

I also picked up 20' API Alumistick ladderfrom Bass Pro. I haven't tried it yet.

But I think I will try to climb and set up the whole thing using my headlamp in the dark. What will the neighbors think!!
