Bowtechs 08' General

Anyone touched, shot, or seen this new bow yet? My Local shop will have them here next week. I'm planning on getting either this bow or the Guardian for 08'. Love the Guardian but the new General seems to have some nice features. Curious if anyone has compared the two.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

What about their other two new bows the 82nd airborne and 101st airborne?
My guesswith the general is that it will be like a guardian with different cams and more speed.

95Harley 10-02-2007 08:48 AM

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

Different Cams and higher brace....lower speed.

31 3/16 ATA
8.25" Brace
4.5lbs
308-314 IBO

Is the latest I have heard on the "General"

This is the first I've even heard of anything from Bowtech this year. I'd be curious to see the design and specs.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

Here is the news I have heard.

Speed bows;

Airborne 101
A-A 36 1/4"
Brace 7 1/4"
Mass Weight 4.2lbs
IBO 332-340
will have a new cam, still binary but new drawstop and new string post available in smooth and fast. Will not have center pivot but do have beyond parallel limbs, will have roller guard and string stop built into the roller guard.

Airborne 82
A-A 36 1/2"
Brace 6 1/8"
Mass Weight 4.2lbs
IBO 344-352
same setup as the 101 above.
Both of these bows will have extruded risers.

Hunting bow

General
A-A 31 3/16"
Brace 8 1/4"
Mass Weight 4.5lbs
IBO 308-314
This bow has a forged riser, it will have the center pivot as well as the roller guard with string stop, upgraded cam with smooth and fast mods. This bow has it all!

And Diamond will have the Marque and the Rock as new bows.

Marquis will be:
34.5 ATA
7" BH
Roller Guard & String Stopper
324 IBO
$699? (Not too sure about the price.)

Diamond is also supposed to have "The Rock":
31.5 ATA
7" BH
Parallel Limbs
318 IBO
$399

Again these are various internet rumors.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

Yeah, I just found that information too. Very interesting. I also read that the Tribute won't be in the lineup this year. If this all holds true I think one of those Airborne models are going to replace my 06 Allegiance. LOL

Hopefully Bowtech releases the official information in the next month or so.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

Since I was waiting for the new bows from all companies to come out before buying a new one, I will have to check the new bowtechs out. I also think that the Truth 2 looks pretty interesting as well. Hoyt likely to have a few new bows, but may not be revolutionary changes that many may hope for.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

Nice, I see some great specs on those bows. Now the decision is going to be which one to get. ;)

I like the specs of the General for hunting. A big brace height on a short bow has always been attractive to me....and the speed isn't anything to sneeze at either.

Ofcourse, a speed bow with fairly forgiving specs (aka the Airborne 101) might also be an excellent hunting bow that I could tie in with my 3D shooting.

But, one also has to consider that new Marquee. With that kind of speed and overall size it is going to offer a killer setup for hunting. I am curious as to the roller guard and string stopper though.

95Harley 10-02-2007 11:55 AM

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

It's ashame they didn't add the new string stop, roller guard, and cam to the Guardian....It's gonna be a tough call. More brace height but 15-20 less fps.....I guess I'll go more brace height...speed kills anyway. Can't wait to shoot it.

One thing I don't like about these rumors. People are reporting that their dealers should get these new bows in the next week or so. That's usually a dead giveaway that something isn't right. I don't think I've ever seen Bowtech announce a new product before November let alone put them on dealer shelves. They need to give the dealers time to unload their 2007 inventory.

Many of these new bows are ready to ship now unfortunately.

Yeah, see my post in the other thread concerning new bows on this page. [:@]Our archery opener is still two weeks away and 2008 bowsare already shipping. Very Very annoying that I am going to have to dump all of the 2007 bows at cost in OCTOBER?!?!?!?!?!?!?! and its not even hunting season yet!

Just to clarify, they are sending catalogs/products to the dealers. Big surprise for me too. I did not expect to see them until the end of this month/beginning of November.

Great, just when I was hoping to put off that purchase until after the new year. LOL ;)

The new ones arent even on bowtechs website yet, dang i was hoping to see what they looked like. They are already ready to ship them to dealers and havent even updated there site yet.

Im interested in the airborne 101, longer a.t.a. and nice brace height, even if it is kinda a speed bow, sounds like the one i might want to check out.

Guardian - General - Guardian - General????

HMMM, so now the drama begins...More Brace height but less speed, new cable roller and string stop but weighs more....

ATA is shorter but with those monster cams it may be just as tall end to end.

Guess I'll just have to shoot them both and see which feels better.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

I just shot the General last week while in Pennsylvania. I have tried most of the 207 flagship bows and believe me when I say that nothing is quiter and more shock free at the shot. Wasn't wild about the draw cycle though, It builds beautifully but has quite a hump just before breakover into the valley. The shot though is sublime to say the least. The one I really want to try is the new Diamond Marquis. I have a feeling that bow will be what the Patriot used to be in feel and every bit as silent as the General.

Terry... check out the thread entitled "Marquis closeups" in the bowhunting forum... I believe it just slipped to page 2. You'll notice which bow I compared it to... ;)

Terry,
I noticed a similar feel on mine, it more or less just drops off pretty suddenly and since it's so different than my other bows it took a few shots to anticipate it and apply the right amount of draw force to keep from just hammering right through it meking it feel odd.
Believe it or not I have heard that the FAST mods actually draw smoother with respect to that breakover. That it's a more mild slide into the valley so I am trying to get my hands on a set to compare.

The shot feel as you said is simply UNREAL.[:-]

I shot a 2008 General on Saturday - had the same opinion. Nothing has ever been in my hands that was so quiet and shock free.

Same thoughts here. I finally got my hands on one last night. I have the same impression in terms of the noise/recoil levels...nonexistant. There is that bit of a hump in the draw cycle but I am sure after a few shots I will become more accustomed to it.

My first thoughts on the bow....

The draw cycle sounds similiar to that of the Trykon but of course that's nothing new to Hoyt's extreme cams which I've been use to so the draw on the new Bowtechs will be sweet.

I'm looking forward to putting my hands on this bow very soon. Hard cams like this is where the speed and energy lies, one reason why Mathews are somewhat shall we say slower. With the nonexistance of noise and vibration, it's all icing on the cake of one sweet, sweet bow. I remember shooting Matt's Guardian and being in AWE about how quiet and shock free it was. I not sure how that could be improved upon except they kept the incredible shock free, noise free and added speed. Bowtech keeps impressing me.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

The General seems to be about 10 fps slower then the Gaurdian. Is the lack of speed made up in smoothness?

The speed difference lies in the brace height.......7 1/8" for the Guardian and 8 1/4" for the General. And yes the General is a smoother shooting bow.

PABowhntr 10-19-2007 08:15 AM

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

The shot feel of the General could possibly be the "best" out of any bow I have had the privelege to shoot. In this case I use the word "best" in reference to noise level, level or recoil and level of vibration during the shot. The grip style, balance, etc... are, obviously, not going to work for everyone as everyone has different preferences.

Still, if you don't shoot this bow when you are considering some of the high end models then you are doing yourself a disservice.

Matt, I agree 110% about the draw cycle. Anything you are not used to will feel different, hence most of the time you will not like it as well the first few times you shoot it. Draw cycle is easy to accustom your muscles to if you are not over bowed. That would be my last criteria for choosing a bow;)

That and I am hypersensitive because of how much I've been shooting recurves lately. LOL:DNot much let off or break over there.
After shooting it fora couple days the sensation is completely gone and the bow draws smoothly and evenly. It's amazing how quickly the body adapts like that. I think because with my recurve and longbow the draw obviously gets toughests right at the end so I was just flat out powering right into and through the breakover on the General and it felt funky.........now it feels sweet as pie. Amazing.

What a seriously awesome shooting bow though geez.......and I don't even have my draw length mods or the fast ones yet. I can't wait to get it up 1/2" and those fast mods. I'll snag probably another 10-12fps in the process too which will give me a little more peace of mind with those 700lb IL bruisers. ;)

Oh and Dan I'll honk th ehorn on the interstate when I'm coming through in 2 Fridays. Tell me the mile marker and I'll lay on the horn. :D

Hello everyone, new to this forum, but just wanted to say I hope the new General is all everyone is saying it is, because I just ordered a new one in Mossy Oak Brush and sold my 06 Tribute. Good Hunting everyone.

RE: Bowtechs 08' General

Ok, so I have shot them both twice now because I thought with all the feedback I must be feeling something different. My 2 cents on the General vs the Guardian,

The General does have less hand shock (small difference), but is slower, the draw cycle seems to be harsher, and a hard break over into not much valley. And believe it or not I think the General is louder than the guardian do to the string "Snap" when it hits the new Bowtech STS.

And last but not least the General needs a Bow press where the Guardian does not.

Am I alone in these feelings?

The dealer in Canon City, after saying he was not going to sell his General demo bow, sold it to a guy from Kansas last week. I guess they argues a bit . . . and then the guy just started laying down #100 bills until the dealer said "Stop!".

why is everyone so hyped up about buying new bows. I have jennings starmaster that i got off ebay for 150$ and its shooting 280 fps right now...does adding 20-30 fps and some KE really make that big of a difference?

BTW...with added Sims equipment my bow is in fact quieter then my buddies XT.

not shure on what all the hype is for going out and spending upwards of a thousand dollars just for cool looks and added fastness...never really got me.
