RE: Tree Saddle

I see where one person uses climbing sticks to get up in the tree...is that the common practice? I was thinking of getting some climbing spikes that attach to the boots. Mostly wouldreally appreciate any opinions...

Climbing sticks are an excellent, very safe method of climbing however they are a bit of trouble to put up. If you choose climbing spikes(lineman climbers) like I use,be SURE to practice and get profiecent with them as they can be dangerous unless you know how to use them. I hold leg out at knee so that spike in going in at angle, getting a big bite instead of almost vertical. If you hold spike close to vertical you are begging for trouble. I also stab tree with a hard kick instead of simply stepping. The idea is to get as much and as solid bite you can that will go into tree and not just bark that will break away on you. Of course I'm 6'2" and 300 pounds so I really have to make sure my spikes get a good bite. Once you get used to them,it's almost like walking up tree.

RE: Tree Saddle

I am a dealer for Tree Saddle and I use one myself. They are a great tool to use, but there is a learning curve involved. I highly recommend getting used to moving around the tree for certain shot angles. If you follow the instructional video included with every Tree Saddle, you should not have any problems. They are pricey, but well worth the investment. I can get up the tree with the sticks and set up in a matter of minutes. They are very comfortable. If you want don't want your stand stolen or used by someone else, they are well worth it. Trespassing is a huge problem here in Youngsville, NC and stands get stolen all the time.
