Scentloc or not?
 

Curious as to how many use some form of scent bloc garment or not. And if you do have you noticed an increase in game seen or harvested?

I used it 2 seasons ago, then last season I didn't. Used Dead Down Wind and saw more deer last year......Having said that, I'm buying a suit to wear again this year. After seeing the science behind it, and listening to others talk about it, I'll be using it in conjunction with DDW this year....I'm pretty excited to see the outcome.

I don't think I was using it properly 2 season ago...I've learned a bit more and will be more ........anal this year about it. We'll see.

When I hunt I want every advantage I can get on my Quarry. I use all of Scent Blockers products and believe in them.:)

I feel the same way about Scent Lok as i do about those slingshot things that shoot scent balls so you dont have to walk and leave scent.

This site seems filled with anti-carbon folks but I happen to believe that they truly do improve your odds by atleast minimizingyour scent. I have been wearing and buying Scent-Lok and ScentBlocker gear since '96. I still add a garment or two every season and will continue to do so in the future. I wear several layers of the stuff on every outing and I am convinced it has saved my butt more times than not.

I won't go deer hunting with out it. I love the stuff. Since I started using it i have seen a lot more bucks which is great for me. Im a young kid and being around all those deer has sure taught me alot. I can' twait to shoot a bigger deer than my dads:D.

SCENT LOK,I would'nt be in the woods hunting whitetails without it I have had deer directly underneath me and they never winded me or picked up my scent.but still you need to be clean as possible and keep your clothes in an air tight container including boots gloves,etc.and dress in the field to keep clean of all foreign objects,my hat or hood and my shooter gloves are SCENT LOK to and they are just as important to me as my suit is,this is my opinion from my sucsess of wearing a carbon activated suit with rubber boots.

I'm not sold on the stuff, I have seen big deer within 10 yds of me when I go straight out to my stand in the evening after work! Before you spend all that money on a Scentlok suit go to your local army surplus story or ebay and buy anold chemical suit. They are carbon lined suits and you can just throw a light $30 bug suit over it and you have the same thing as Scentlok plus 200 bucks in your pocket.

Make sure you get a used one and not a new one b/c you will look like a chimney sweep when you take it off!!!!!

You sound like you do a good job of staying scent free, keeping clothes in container, using rubber boots.

Isn't it possible that this (and obviously the wind) had something to do with your close encounter?

I think this may explain some people's apparent success. The people who care enough to buy and wear scentlok probably (on average) do a better job on scent control in general. I know that the first scent suit I bought was right about the time I started using special detergent, scent removal sprays, keeping clothes separate, using rubber boots, jacking up higher in my stand, and all that.

I've had deer very close not wearing scent-lok, but I do all the things you do. Of course deer have busted me, but they also busted me back when I wore scentlok.

I tried it seriously for the first time last year and can confidently say I saw more deer downwind of me that didn't spook than ever before. I really can't think of a time I was winded to the point of a deer snorting and running off. A few nervous looks, some tail twitched, and some stare-downs, but they always ended in the deer just kind of walking off or going back to business as usual, when I was sure they were about to blow out of the country.

The key is if you're going to use it, use it right. That means not wearing it in your truck or around the house, keeping it in an air-tight container when not in use, ALWAYS wearing a hat and facemask, etc.

And don't use it as an excuse to hunt a stand when the wind is wrong, or to not use scent-free soaps when taking a show, wearing rubber boots, etc. It's not the token to eliminating all other means of scent control, but rather another tool to help reduce your scent and reduce the chances of you spooking game while hunting.

Try it for yourself, then you be the judge of whether it works or not. ;)

In my opinion i think when you see a lot of deer you just HAPPENED to be wearing scent lok and the time you didnt see deer you werent wearing it. Reason i believe its a waste of money is because there are other proven ways to reduce scent and when it comes down to it, we're trying to beat a deers nose....most of the time that aint happening.

And i think this website will make any nonbeliever a believer. I've posted this URL on other threads also.

exactly how hot do you have to get the carbon to re-freash in your dryer? i didnt think it was possible. i could be wrong, someone fill me in. im gonna do a search and see what i can find.

That's my problem with it. I think it works initially if you don't leave it out
to suck up all the odors. If I was going on an expensive paid hunt and had the extra money, I might consider buying a suit for that specific hunt (definitely thinking down the road ;)).

While I don't think it has been scientifically proven that a new suit doesn't work, I am fairly certain there is ironclad scientific proof that it cannot be regenerated. There is no such thing as "partially regeneration" of carbon. It's like getting water up to 150 degrees and saying its partially boiled. To regenerate requires temperatures so high that it would incinerate the garmet and you would just have a pile of carbon.

The problem is you cant...i found in that website i posted that to reactivate carbon you have to reach temperatures of 1,472 degree. Obviously a dryer cant reach that and even if it did it would completely destroy your clothes.

You simply will not ever fool an animals nose. Look at drug smugglers and what they go through to mask or hide the odor of drugs. Dogs (whos noses are on par with deer and elk) easily pick up heavily maskeddrug odors in all kinds of chemicals and organic maskers. Carbon suddenly fixes all this???????

Even with the use of all the scent free soaps, maskers and body odor eliminators, you simply stink. Your skin, especially your hands, scalp, face, bung hole, etc. are always secreting oils and fluids, let alone your nose, mouth and ears. This stuff stinks bad, especially when we as humans with our poor sense of smell can smell it. You can't get rid of it no matter what you wash in, spray on or wear. If it isn't our body that stinks, it is our bows (lube), arrows, strings, shoes and clothing that we wear. It all stinks all the time to animals. You just can't fool an animals nose. Often times when an animals seems undistressed down wind from us, it is because they haven't been educated by hunters or just have other things on their mind or just don't care. I have seen this countless times, with and without scent elimination items. It doesn't mean they didn't smell us. Sometimes they are just curious, even big bucks and big elk. Some of the biggest critters I have ever seen have walked right up to me from the down wind side without a care in the world. I know they can see me and smell me, but just don't care. I dont use Scent Crock. I have a huge full body condom that I get in and it keeps my scent enclosed. After the hunt I wash it in really hot water and it recharges it no problem! I have seen way more deer since I have started using this product. It has nothing to do with the fact that I have much better places to hunt than I used to and I only hunt down wind from the deer. Those two things shouldnt have anything to do with the fact that I see more deer. So it must be the condom!

Oh yea...I bet those famous people on TV that use it dont get paid a dime to say it works either....!!
