I just got Leupold RXII's for $209 + $8.00 shipping. That's the price of the baseline Nikon. Couldn't pass up a price like that.
Man - you beat the price I paid for the RXII by quite a way!! I've had my RXII for a while now (I can't remember exactly how long.... of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!!), but I like it, I like it a lot!!

I got lucky Lee. I was looking for the Nikon and decided to do a search for the Leupold RXI even though I didn't want to pay that much. Then that price popped up for the RXII. At Basspro they are $319.

Now that's $110 I can put towards another thing I need to buy. A GPS.:D
Custom Strings
Or another tree stand.
More arrows.
The list just keeps growing.

I was able to get one from the guy on ebay last week for 204! So far so good. Took a bit to figure out all the modes and options, but it has worked great since I figured it out.

That's where I found mine at. The guy still has a good many of them left.

I also picked up a Leupold RXII as my first rangefinder $202 total from ebay. So far no complaints. I took it to the archery range this weekend and it was spot on with their lasered mesurements.

Has anyone figured out all of the bells and whistles? I had some trouble trying to get the rangefinder to do exactly what the instructions described. I'll ask a more specific question later when I can play around with it some more.

As a real world test I took my RX-II to the golf course Friday and was ranging people at just over 300 yds. It was accurate from the par 3 tee boxes over 200 yds and from the farway yardage markers.

It didn't take too long to figure out how to scroll through all of the choices. Although, I do need to work on the function for shooting thorugh weeds.

Dave,

I thought that you would consider shooting "through weeds" unethical ;)

Now that I have my Mean V CSS, the next item on the agenda is a rangefinder.

Dave, do you think it is necessary for second year of bowhunting? I like to buy mid-good quality stuff, but just don't want to spend another $250+ right now. I figure with enough practice I could guess fairly accurately out to 25 yards. But I know that in the heat of the moment, I might see one at 35 and think it is 30 and shoot low.

#$#%)&*# This sport is expensive. :D

RE: what range finder?

I would never shoot through weeds. About 5 yrs ago I watched a marching band of nice bucks pass (7 in all) by at 35 yds and couldn't take a shot that I felt comfortable with due to weeds and brush in the way. They decided to come through the only thick part ofthearea I was hunting. Once they cleared the weeds they were allturned to the right and all I had was rear end shots at 40 ydsand none of the bucks stopped at any point. This was on the property that I told you that I lost access to after the relative passed away. I never got a chance to hunt there again The site still haunts me today. :(

I bought the rangefinder more for rifle season down on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Seem to be always taking long shots and can't judge distance worth a darn on deer past 50 or so.

The rangefinder isn't needed. If you have access to your hunting area you can buy little surveying flags and place them around your stand at predetermined distances to allow you to get better at judging distances.

I'll be hunting an area where this is not possible and while I do not plan on shooting past 40 yds I want to make sure of my distances.

If you are hunting from a tree stand and aim like the deer is 30 but it is 35 you will still hit vitals due to arrow rise from a tree stand compensating somewhat for the arrow drop that will occure. The higher in the tree the more the rise.I'll PM you with a better explaination if you'd like when I'm fully awake.

This is one of those things that I've always wanted to buy and now have the means to do so. I know you have a baby on the way and for this year I wouldn't worry about getting one. I didn't use one for 25 yrs and didn't have a problem judging deer sized game atbow ranges.
