RE: Expandable broadheads
nice shot, anything under 20 yards i can hit quarters almost all day long. the ear hole is over size of a half dollar. If your comfortable taking the shot, take it. The brain is certainly a clean quick kill. I saw on outdoor channel of hunters shooting the neck of deer. more chances of wounding the animal in the neck than the head. By all means however, if you have a clear shot to the vitals, take it before attempting a shot to the head.
Im not trying to cause an arguement, just my .02 cents. |
RE: Expandable broadheads
by the way, yall use the grim reaper mechanicals at all?

RE: Expandable broadheads
Well, I feel a need to speak up about a head shot. The problem isn't that a brain shot won't kill an animal immediately. And the problem isn't that the best shot in the world can drill a quarter every shot.
The problem is that a deer can move its head before the arrow gets there and the arrow can wind up shattering the jaw. The deer then dies a long painful death from starving. It has happened, and anybody witnessing it gets a sour view of bowhunting. And it doesn't matter how fast the bow is, a deer can move its headjust enough to cause bad results. Besides that, a deer can decide to look up or check the wind right at the release. That is why a head shot is not a recommended shot. I don't post to be judgmental, just to add something to think about. |
RE: Expandable broadheads
your point in well accepted and considered. I just spoke about what I read and did not fully think about consequences of those actions, sorry.
However, an animal can be wounded easily while shooting at the head, neck, or the vitals. Sorry, for any disturbances |
RE: Expandable broadheads
Yeah but a shot at the lungs has to miss by a good amount before you just wound a deer. If you can't hit a lung then you need to practice more.

RE: Expandable broadheads
SHE DIDN'T OFFER A BROADSIDE DOUBLE LUNG. A TREE COMPLETELY BLOCKED THEM. I HAVEHARVESTED OVER 125 WHITETAILS AND I HAVE ONLY SHOT 2 DEER IN THE HEAD. 1 BOW 1 GUN. SPECIFIC SITUATIONS APPLIED. THIS IS NOT A COMMON PRACTICE.
THE ORIGINAL COMMENT WAS TO PROMOTE THE POSITIVE ADVANTAGE OF MECHANICAL BROADHEADS, NOT A CONTROVERSY OVER PROPER SHOT PLACEMENT OR ETHICS. FOR THE RECORD, A RESPONSE TO THE JAW HIT. IF A DEER IS STANDING AND REACTS TO A SHOT. THE DEER'S NATURAL TENDENCY IS TO DROP OR DUCK. THIS WOULD RESULT IN A CLEAN MISS OVER THE TOP OF THE DEER. SO MINUS AN ARCHER'S POOR ACCURACY(SHOOTING LOW)THE JAW HIT IS OUT OF QUESTION. THANKS FOR THE REPLY. |
