Where would you draw the line in buying a used bow vs. a new mid grade bow?
Here is the situation:
My father has limited funds. His brother has offered to sell him a 2004 Mathews LX with a Micro Tune rest w/ overdrawand Mathews one piece quiver (no site, my father does not like the site that is currently on the bow). His asking price is $415. This bow is in perfect condition and has new cams.
My father could instead purchase a mid grade Forge or Fred Bear bow plus accessories and still stay under his budget. ($600 total)
FACTS:
1. The LX is a quality Mathews bow, but it is discontinued.
2. Because of my fathers budget, getting a new bow would require new accessories. This would ultimately reduce the quality of bow he could purchase.
3. Shooting the bow does not mean anything to my father. He has shot the LX and many other mid range bows and likes most of them. So consider the feel equal in all bows.
What would you do if you were my father?

Honestly.... I'd help him with the funds he needs to get what he wants. I don't beleive in just settling for something. You shoul help him buy the accessories. Hey you asked!

If I liked my brothers bow I'd go with that. Things set and ready to go/with a guy who I could call anytime I wanted.

This is the same guy who spent his life giving you all you have now. I'd get him a gift certificateto his shop of choice and let the shop owner know he's coming in to look at a new bow. When your father says a bow is out of his price range the shop owner can look at him and say no its not. Your boys said you always gave them the best opportunities in life and this is just a small way of them showing what it meant to them as he hands him a gift certificate to make up the balance of what he can not afford.
