Well today was actually the very first timeIreally used it ,although I was having a few doubt's about this piece of equipment, espeacially when the mosquito's were about to carry me away ,it could,nt work fast enough ,but once it started working I was very impressed ,these thernacell's work absolutely awsome ,I'll never head out to the wood's again without it . Pooor Terry was sitting down the treeline from me and when I asked him how the bug's were ,he just shook his head ,i knew what he meant .

I used it last season for the first time and it worked great for me.Like already mentioned, it does put off a little smoke and smell but the deer don't seem to be alarmed by it or at least that's been my experience with it so far. I harvested a doe last year with my bow at10 yds and i had the thermacell operating under my seat on the platform when she came in.On other days i had deer come by while i had it on and they didn't seem to get spooked from it. I'll continue to use it and see what happens.
I've found it also works great at my kids late afternoon ballgames but only problem is you'll have a group of people around you once they see you are the only one not getting eaten alive by mosquitos :D. I use it for cookouts, camping, fishing and any other outdoor activity. It's truely the best purchase i've made on outdoor gear to date.

I consider the ThermaCell a 'must have' for theskeeters. Takes about 15 minutes to get going, a scentmat would work good for about 4 hours and you can get up to 11 or so hours per butane cartridge.
When it's really still, you can detect a slight 'burning odor' as well as, you can actually see what appears to be smoke--but I can honestly say, I'll much rather have this, than to sit in the woods and be eaten alive!!!
The ThermaCell is money well spent--I'll give it a A+.

Like everyone else I have to agree this thing really works, my friend and i went hunting this past year in the early part ofdeer season here in sc and well he and i both were hunting swamp edges and well the skeeters were in there thick and i stayed till sundown and went back to the truck and there was my buddy stretched out in the front taking a siesta, said there was no sense in sitting up in the stand getting eaten alive said he didn't last but about 20 minutes, i looked dumbfounded at him and responded that i didn't have a single skeeter come near me, gotta love that thermacell, oh and i did see 4 deer (two does each with a fawn) and my buddy well he went to the store that night and picked up a thermacell.

I was going to buy one at Bass Pro the other day on your recommendation but I balked and I'm glad I did! Had to return some stuff to Menards and found they had them on sale for $7 a pop. They only had em in white but a little spray paint and markers an I had the custom camo version.

Refill packs w/ One butane and 3 mats was $3 As for the scent thing a buddy of mine smokes while hunting and says it's the human odor that scares the deer not bug spray smoke etc. We smell like trouble i.e. predators

I love my Thermocell, and convinced a couple other friends that hunt that they might want to invest in one (and they're all glad they did). The guy I hunt with most of the time also smokes, and claims that the deer don't care about the smoke either, but won't come near the butts (he puts those in his pee bottle). He spends a lot of time in the woods, and most years does very well in filling the freezer, so I'll take his word for it (I don't smoke). I don't know about bug spray...it seems that they do pick up on that and I won't use the regular stuff. If I'm going to use bug spray, which is rare now that I use the thermocell, I'll use the no stinkin' bugs brand, which depending on the formula used is either a lot closer to being scentless, or closer to being one of the normal cover scents that is marketed for hunting. It's about equally effective as deepwoods off, just without the strong smell.

Mine works well, but smokes after an hour or so.

Thermacell is on my must have list. I don't know how I ever sat still in the woods without it.

How does it work on other biting insects like blackflies and no-see-ums?

I've hunted the deep swamps of Florida and Georgia with that thing; you cannot live without it. You'd think you were in a glass bubble, for all the mosquitoes you'd see swarming just feet away, wishing they could bite you.
