My wife gave me a Nikon 440 for Christmas and I am very happy with it. Good optics , acurate and small enough to fit in a shirt pocket on its lanyard.

I have the nikon 600 and love it. Very easy to read, light and compact. One time i got it to read 678 yards, that was off a building of course but still not bad for a 600 yard rangefinder. It also fits your $300 budget, I paid like $270 at cabelas.

I have had a Bushnell yardage pro scout for 3 yrs. No complaints. I am sure technology has advanced though.

I have a swarovski now and had Bushnell yardage pro before, the bushnell was great and in the price range you're looking at, but if I was in the market again, I'd have to check out the new Leaupold's it's great technology and they make great optics.

You could Purchase a Leupold Rx-II 6x23 Camo verson for 319.00 @ Binoculars .com They have great service, I buy all my optics from there. They usully have the best deal around.

I've got a Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 in Mossy Oak. I paid 148.39 for it and it will be more than I'll ever need in a rangefinder.
