My review of the Double Bull Matrix (REVISED)

Rating System:

1: Excellent
2.Good
3.Average
4. Bad
5. Terrible

I recently bought a Matrix, and we hear an aweful lot about them but as far as I know there has been no review here of one. So here goes my first ever Hunting Net review.

Camo, color: I rate this a 1. Emphatically. The Predator Deception scaled to size is simply amazing. I set it up in several places and it just disappeared. I set my camera on black and white and could hardly see the thing at all. Set it up and remember where it is, cause brushed in it's hard to find back.

Framework: Also rate this a 1. Very strong, durable and well built. The hubs are 1/4 turn adjustable to tighten or loosen the walls slightly.

Adjustability: I only give this a 2.5. While it IS adjustable, not very easily. Every corner has a slide buckle to adjust wall tension. They are quite difficult to move, but they do work. The best adjustment is the hubs. Those are very good. If the buckles were better, I would rate it higher.

Window adjustment: Again, on the corner is a seperate slide buckle to open and close the Surround Sight (tm) system. Incredibly easy to adjust and can be adjusted from 1 to 23", so there is a LOT of adjustment as well. But the problem is the buckles don't like to stay put. I catch them sliding back down at times. Again, I will only rate this a 2.

Ease of set up and tear down: A 1! Big time! This baby is SOOOOOOO easy to set up and take down. They aren't joking with the 6 second set up. This is one of my favorite features of this blind.

Visiblility: Again, a 1. There is no where around the blind you can't see. Even if you have only 1 corner open, as pictured, you can still peek out the back and see around. If need be, there are also 4 Silent Black to Black windows you can shoot out of. Simply awesome. The net goes around the entire blind, so even if you open these windows they are netted.

Overall: 1.5. This thing is pretty amazing. You set it up, there is no shine, no flap, it just sits there. It is so easy to use it's scary. There are a few things I don't really like about it, the slide buckles being the biggest one. Now, another point of view here is that I JUST got this rascal 2 days ago and am still really learning how to use it. I'm sure I will get better as turkey season goes on. Another thing, when you take it out of the box that rascal is TIGHT. But, it's suppose to be. I did need to loosen the walls a tick though to make things a bit easier.

There is one roof opening for either ventiliation or shooting say doves out of. I intend to use it for that this year. There is plenty of room in the blind for 2 archers. No trouble at all. I'll be having my camera and tripod in it this spring.

Another note: I am only about 10 feet from the blind when I took this photo and my friend Brian is standing inside. He's dern near impossible to see, and that's with the net up. If you wear black inside, you are invisible! Period. Sorry, couldn't resist setting the new UltraTec in front for the photo. Brian will be breaking this blind in the weekend on hogs in Arkansas.

Great review. My biggest thing with the double bull's is the sticker price. But the more I see how great a blind they are the easier it will be to lay down the ol' credit card.

Thanks for the info.

When you adjusted the wall tension did you adjust with the wall out or the wall in? If you collapse the wall it will be easier to adjust. Im sure you will have fun hunting out of it this year.

Rob, sharin one with a friend is the best way. As mentioned, there is plenty of room for 2 archers inside. Whoever that lucky friend of yours is will have a ball in that thing with you. Just don't forget the camera! I'd share mine with ya......but I don't have any plans to PA any time soon...:D

bullmoose, yeah, I popped the hubs in before adjusting. But you know, come to think of it, they are quick clip buckles, perhaps I can undo the clip, pull it tight, and re clip......hmmmm......gonna have to check that out.

There's a reason they are so expensive. Spend some time in a DB and one of the competitors and you'll see for yourself.

OK.....I have done some more messing around with this blind, and have found that the walls are more easily adjusted than I at first thought. All I did was unbuckle the 3 point quick clip, pulled it tight and re-cliped. Actually VERY easy. Gonna change my 2.5 to a 1.5.

But, my woes with the slide buckles continue. One has already broken. I have emailed DB directly and asked for a replacement as well as expressed my feeling that they need to be better.

Thanks for the great review, mobow!

I'm sure I'll be getting one of these as I introduce my boy to hunting before we get him up in a treestand. That way, I'll obviously still have it even after he's reached that point, too. Best of both worlds! ;)

:D That's the look on your face after one "close encounter" of almost any wildlife from within your double bull! I built my own blinds from dome tents, then came double bull simply the best! I'll never forget the sound of spittn' & drummin' for the first time @ 4/5 yards! 3 long beards so close you can look in his eye.

I was lucky enough to win a gun @ a NWTF banquet & traded it + some cash for my Matrix 360. Don't leave home w/o it...
I need a "motion detector" to wake me up some days AM-PM makes for long days & short nights. This year I might skip some of those early mornings. I'm hunting WI/MN back to back in early May.
