RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
I also have a magntec by Hoyt.I wouldnt dare sell this one.I love this bow too mch.I am in the process of upgrading toa drop away and new site's.Because I hunt deep woods a lot instead of the fields later in the year. For this reason I need brighter sites.I may get a new string end of this year. But the bow will stay with me for atleast 1 more year before I even consider buyning a new one.
I say if the bow is still shooting well and you like ti then restring it and keep it.Just upgrade sites and rest only. |

RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
I have had only three bows (that I hunt with) in the last oh.......20 years, and I just bought the third one (used 2000 model). For me if they shoot good and kill deer what more could you want? The deer haven't changed in the last 20 years have they?
Hey I like all the new gizmos and bows just like the next but when I find one I like to shoot and shoot well with it, I keep it. I have yet to hunt with my new (used) Browning Blood Brother but if it hunts as well as it shoots I will most likely keep it for years to come. It's all personalpreference if you want a new bow hey go out and get one I have no problem with that. God knows there are things that I buy simply because I want the newest thing out, (the whole line of short magnums comes to mind:D)but I don't think there is a "time line" to follow as to when you should buy a new bow. |
RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
If you have the money upgrade as often as the pocketbook allows...
As for me, I go with the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... |
RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
I say if you got a 10 year old bow, and it works, and you like it, who cares if you upgrade? I personally can't afford to upgrade but about once every 5-8 years. I've had my bow now for about 4 years and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. It's fast, it's in good shape and I'm used to it.
I don't understand why some people buy every new bow that hits the market every one or two years...I also don't understand how a common middle-class person like myself can afford to do that either, especially with the "cheap" bows running around $500 most of the time... |
RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
My last bow was in it's 15th year when the limb started to delaminate. I purchased a new bow in 2003 and I expect this one to last another 15 or so.

I only get an allowance so I will be keeping mine until it doesn't perform correctly. We are saving to get out of the city .Myallowance goes for licenses , gasoline , camo cloting, ammo, arrows etc. My bow is over 20 years old and still has the wallop and the groups. It's a Darton.

RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
On average, about how often do you all suggest buying a new bow. Also, is an older bow (ie 4-5yrs old) worth upgrading with all new goodies such as string, sights, rests, etc. for a couple of hundred bucks or should you just get a new one? I typically get more bows than I probably should at this stage of the game but I those purchases are done more from a tinkering perspective rather than actually settling on something to hunt with each year. Don't scratch that itch you have just yet. ;) |
RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
I usually upgrade every 4-5 years. I just bought a Bowtech Defender this year because I shot it and I really like it. Did I need to buy it? Not at all. My 4 year old Buckmaster G2 was shooting just fine but it was one of those compulsive things. If your bow is shooting 279fps and is quiet, I would just upgrade to some new accessories. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, throw it my way. I can always find something to buy! ;)

RE: How often should you upgrade with a new bow?
I shoot new bows every year, my best friend owns a outdoor store. If one really grabs me I can get it at dealer cost but if not I stay with what I have. I have shot some bows only one year but have shot others five or more. It just depends on what they bring out and catching the wife looking the other way!
Your Reflex sounds like it is doing well and hunting season is on us now. I would get a new string andtoys now and put them on a new bow after the season. The new bows will be out shortly and prices will drop on this years leftovers. I hate to see a bow I paid X amount for this month for $150 less in November. SF |
