Default Baiting carp?

I finally got back into some bowfishing after about a year or two. and found a Pond nearby that is absolutely overrun with carp.

the first day I went I was able to toss some dog food in the water and got the water absolutely rolling with fish. and slowly but surely I've been everyday this week doing the same thing baiting the water with dog food before shooting.

Now today I didn't have but a couple fish come up and take the bait. I haven't shot many carp at all so the population is still high. yet I've noticed fewer and fewer come everyday.
Anywho Are carp smart enough to realize that they are getting shot at after going for the bait?

Darn tootin they are that smart. Carp will catch on to your strategies quicker than just about any other fish. They learn quick and will quickly learn that chumming = arrows.

That makes sense now...
I went yesterday and didn't see one fish all day long...

I think I'll give them a break and hope they forget in a couple days...

I use Soured Milo and it works every time, it has them going crazy and splashing around like kids skinny dipping. Also brings in Catfish! I like to cut up carp and buffalo for my jug lines. Great blue cat bait.

One time we saw carp swarming under a mulberry tree on the steep edge of a bank where the berries were falling into the water. We picked a few mulberries and put them on the hook and caught several.
