HBC 2008[/b]
Houston[/b] Bowfishing Classic[/b]
Saturday June 21, 2008[/b]

The HBC is open to anyone who is interested in using bow and arrow to take rough fish out of our local waters. By rough fish, we mean fish that are not “sport” fish that hinder the quantity and growth of native fish. Fish that can be shot in the tournament are: garpike, dogfish/bowfin, and all species of carp (big-head, big-mouth, common, and grass carp, a.k.a. white emir). No suckers (of any kind) or stone rollers will count. No other fish can be taken- in accordance of state law. All fish must be freshly shot; no old, bloated fish will count. Each team will consist of two members and both must be present at check-in and weigh-in. No one else can accompany/aid teams during the tournament. The tournament boundaries will be any tributaries of the Wabash River in north central Indiana. This is a competitive, but friendly, tournament, so please stay away from ponds that are stocked with grass carp (the rivers have plenty of them). This is a NUMBERS shoot, so winners will be determined by the number of fish shot, not weight (weight will be used to determine biggest/smallest fish awards). The tournament will be from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. Check-in will be at Zimpfer Construction once again this year (see directions on back). The entry fee is $50/team and needs to be paid in CASH[/b] (so immediate payouts can be done). All teams must be signed in (please leave contact info for follow-up report) by 7:45 A.M. to ensure the tournament starts on time. Anyone not at check-in is not in the tournament. The tournament will end at 8 P.M. sharp[/b]; teams not in the check-in areas by this time will be disqualified. All fish will be left in the boats, trucks, or containers until an HBC rep checks you in. DO NOT DRAIN YOUR BOATS!

The payouts of placings, big fish, etc., will be determined by the number of teams in the tournament. All money taken in for the tournament will be used to pay for expenses (disposal, supplies, etc.), payouts, and a donation to Fishing Has No Boundaries. This is a national organization that has a chapter in Monticello who ensures that people with special needs have the opportunity to enjoy boating and fishing (any donations would be appreciated). How many awards and how much depends on how many entries we have, so spread the word. Last year we had a lot of no shows, and everyone involved knows what they missed! I have pre-registration forms for anyone interested in shooting this year. I would like people to pre-register so I can get an idea how many teams to expect (taking first 50 teams). If you need a form, contact me at 765-714-4638 or [email protected]. HBC 2008 is posted on the BAA, S. Illinois, and N. Illinois club websites, so the word has spread. Hopefully, we will have a large turnout this year.

Rules [/b]

All participants must adhere to the rules of the tournament. We are using rules established by successful national tournaments as well as state regulations. Anyone who violates the rules in any way will be disqualified, forfeit their entry fees, and be banned from the tournament. This is supposed to be a fun tournament, so there will be Zero[/b] Tolerance[/b] for cheating. The tournament organizer is Dustin Houston and he has final[/b] say in all matters that deal with the tournament. All teams are expected to know and follow all rules and guidelines set forth for the participants in the HBC. These rules are:
(1). Two people per team only (2). Bow and arrow only (must have arrow attached to retriever with line (3). You may use one boat per team (4). Teams should stay at least 20 feet away from each other during tournament (5) No team may give fish to another team (6). You may not be in possession of dead (old) fish or any fish not designated by the tournament. (7). You cannot bowfish near Oakdale or Norway Dams (8). Both team members must be present at morning and final check-ins (9). Do not do anything that would be detrimental to you, our tournament, or our sport (10). Be honest, have fun, and enjoy some “Blood, Guts, and Carp Eggs!”

Directions[/b]

Check-in: Zimpfer Construction, 700 N 1150 W, Yeoman, IN

From Lafayette: Take SR 25N to Delphi, turn left on US 421 (Dairy Queen), stay on 421 for about 5 miles until you see the HBC sign on the left side of the road (Oakdale Inn sign on the right 700 N). Turn left and follow the road straight to check-in.

From Monticello: Take 421/39 9 miles until you see the HBC sign on your right 700 N (Oakdale Inn sign on your left 7). Turn right and follow the road straight to check-in.

From Logansport: Take 24 to Monticello to junction of 39/421 and see above directions.

Payouts[/b]
[/b]
If all goes well, the payouts will be: 1st-3rd places, biggest fish, biggest gar, biggest bowfin/dogfish, smallest fish, and average joe (team with average number of fish). With more entries, this may change; we’ll just have to see. Prizes may also be awarded in place of cash for certain awards.
